Diet/liver shrinking before surgery

I'm so wanting food, but I'm on the liquid diet right now.  LOL!  My surgery is on Monday, but I'm not going to complain about having to do the liquid because my surgeon only has me on it for five days, and so many have to do it for two weeks!!  (which actually makes me more concerned that I won't have time to lose enough weight or shrink my liver)
Is it the protein that's needed that shrinks the liver or the lack of carbs that does it?  I'm curious, as I have gotten to the point of not wanting to even drink shakes.  It just makes me want to EAT something.  I know that starving yourself is out, but I'm finding that the shakes are making me hungry.  Is that odd?  Did that do that to anyone else?  Maybe it's the idea of not chewing.
I'm getting broth, jello, and drinks.  But the shakes are pure torture right now.  I'm doing them--but getting three down a day is REALLY hard.  Too sweet.  Making my stomach cramp/kinda nauseous.  Just would rather not have them--again, makes me want to fill my stomach with REAL food that doesn't do that to me. ha ha
(Course, I'm using the kinds that I don't add milk to--jus****er right now)
I'm so close to the surgery, and yet here I am so frustrated with how I am feeling.  And now I'm worried that my liver isn't going to be shrunk up enough.

Mary Lou,
I truly understand the true sweetness of the shakes, they were pure nasty. I also needed to CHEW and created my own slushies with what ever SF drink mix I ahd around, I would spoon it in and chew away like crazy, it really did fill the need to chew.
It was nothing more than SF drink mix like crystal light and ice in a blender. You liver will be fine, dont worry ok

It's the low carbs that helps you drop weight. Pre and post-op. Eat some protein. You're lightweight and if a bariatric surgeon can't find his way around a lightweights innards, he has no business being in there in the first place. Eat protein and reduce your carbs to under 20 or so grams a day. The liquid diet pre-op for lightweights is bologna.

You need some protein to stay healthy before surgery.  You can get unflavored and add it to V8 or broth or cream soups to stay way from sweet stuff. You can add chocolate or vanilla to your morning coffee instead of creamer.  You want to get your protein in, however.  Also keep your fluids up so you will be "plumped" and they can find your veins easily for your IVs.  It's not long now, you can do it.

This made me laugh!  Thank you all for what you said.  I know I've been a bit wacky about it.  Odd what lack of energy does to you.  I'm sure that not drinking the shakes was getting to me--not as much protein in my system.   Definitely have no problem with my liquids; but today I splurged at lunchtime and ate tuna straight out of the can.  Wonderful to chew something! ha ha
Just a couple more days!

I know how you feel, Mary Lou.  I was just there last week.  I did "cheat" 3 times and was fine (NOT that I want you to cheat, just saying).  You are going to do great !!

You want to show up for surgery as healthy as possible. So get in as much protein as you can and don't  let yourself get dehydrated either.
