Doctor confirms food getting stuck...

I saw Dr. Rumsey, surgeon today for my 7 week check up.  I told him about the 3 episodes I had with my pouch feeling like it's going to explode after eating items that I had previously ate 4-5 times without any problems.  The horrible pain would last for up to 3 hours.  He told me that it is my esophagus that is causing the severe pain and it is due to food getting stuck.  He recommended that when I eat a shrimp to take one bite then another bite of something else so not to pack one item in my pouch.

So when I got home I had my lunch and ate it like the doctor said a bite of deli ham and a bite of string cheese and guess what?  My first experience.  Tonight I feel a little raw/irritated in my throat and pouch.  I will just have a protein drink tonight before bed.  He did give me the okay to lift as much weight as I want at the gym now - so that was good news!
Thanks for letting me share.

PS  I've tried the Papaya Enzyme Chews this last weekend and within 10 minutes I felt relief.  Dr. Rumsey had never heard about them.

I guess I don't understand his desired process.

Anyway, maybe if it is stuff getting stuck, sticking to soft food a while longer may be a good idea, or chewing better/eating slower.

I'm glad the pa[aya enzymes helped.  They have helped me when something was sitting really heavy in my pouch.

If eating soft foods, and chewing more doesn't help be sure to call the doctor back. Don't suffer.
As for the weight training-Yeah!!  The body shapes up so much faster when you lift weights.

I am so glad to have found out about the Papaya Enzymes. They do clear up heavy and painful foods quite well. Hope this whole process gets easier for you.

Aspan, you can get them anywhere large amounts of vitamins are sold....vitamin shoppe, vitamin world, world market, trader joes......they can really help sometimes.

This is really a learning curve.....for me, mixing up food in the beginning would often make it worse( i.e. your dr's not so good suggestion).  The good thing is once I was not over the toilet, I would just take it easy the rest of the day and I was better by the next day.  I had SUCH a bad time though after trying 1/2 of Price's flax muffin that I STILL havent tried bread.  I bought some of those mini bread rounds this past weekend but am still afraid to try as I havent had any foamies in about 2 months and am pretty content with NO foaming epsiodes...lol.  I DO stop eating though RIGHT away if something isnt sitting right and chew some enzymes if needed.

This WILL get better.

When I do eat bread, it is easier toasted. I try not to eat it too often but once in a while with peanut butter as a treat!!

Sheri....maybe I will get brave and try 1/2 of one this weekend.  I have read on here that toasted bread is much easier......my experience with the flax muffin as well as TINY amount of a pot pie pastry once wasn't pretty.  I also am afraid if it goes down easy I will WANT it A LOT!.  I am really trying to low carb it as much as possible.
