Knuckling Down

I've been struggling the last 2 months with only having small weight loss and I'm still a ways from goal.

So I decided to be honest with myself and realized I was eating some slider food that was preventing me from losing better.  I decided to start journaling my food and to ramp up my workout routine.  Guess what . . . it worked!

I jumped on the scale yesterday, and I lost 2 lbs. after just 1 week of my efforts.  I haven't lost 2 lbs. in one week in forever.  It's not always easy to limit my calories with having RH, I have to eat at least every 3 hours, but I managed to do it.

I wanted to post this to encourage others that are frustrated too. I think I can get to goal, but at the very least I can get to a normal BMI.  Right now I'm still "overweight."  Watching my diet now isn't nearly the same experience before surgery; it's nowhere near as agonizing.  In fact, it's pretty easy.  I just need to plan, and I have to stay away from peanutbutter (my weakness).

the eight big things holding back weight loss ... butter

cheese

cooking oil (or fried food)

ice cream

fast food

restaurant food

and yes peanut butter

oh and sugar( to a limited degree )

of course DS ers malabsorb 80% of the fat they eat so they can eat these things with abandon ...

U or I try it and guess what

Low carb dieting MIGHT make a temporary exception .. but U have to be REALLY low carb and the jury is still out on whether thats a healthy lifestyle in the long run even if U CAN sustain it .

Personally I CANT .

I'm still eating cheese and butter (in small amounts), but I'm planning for it.  I never did eat fast food even before WLS, or if I do, I eat off the healthy menu.  My stomach hasn't been able to do fried food much in the last 15 years.

I sort of have my own plan. It limits carbs, but it's not really what I consider to be low carb. I'm more abou****ching calories and protein.  With me, and my RH, really low carb is too difficult.

I love to read posts of people who are further out than me, and have been working on long term success.  It is helping me to understand what skills I will need to be developing during the honeymoon phase.

Thanks for posting this, and congrats on your success

Reading experiences others have posted has really helped me.  It helped me to understand that my stomach can hold more at this point in my journey, and that it's easy to take in more calories than I want.

I wasn't gaining weight, but I wasn't losing well either.  If I stick to dense proteins, and eat good veggies, I do best.  I still have great restriction, but eating too many sliders can really get me off track.  Peanutbutter is good for you in one sense, but it packs a lot of calories.  I had to wake up to all of that.

Good luck to you as you go through your journey.

My two greatest friends during this journey have been food tracking and exercise (including weight training). During pre-op, I learned how valuable food tracking, weighing and measuring my food were to successful weight loss. The first week, I started weighing my food, I lost 3 lbs. Then, the second week, I added food tracking, another 3 lbs gone. Helped me to reach my pre-op surgery goal.

I have continued those things and still do them today. I have been maintaining within a 2 lb range since mid-April. I don't think that I would have been as successful, if I had not done those things.

As you mentioned, planning is everything. I take my breakfast and lunch with me everyday, and when I am out, I have healthy snacks. There is usually a Starbucks near, so a skinny latte is always safe.

good for you.

Being honest with yourself is what it is all about.  I have to keep my scale around or I will eat too much.  I don't weigh anything but my protein,  Not my greens, veggies and I don't eat starch carbs except for beans.  But the 1 oz of cheese can be 2 really easily if not measured.  That and posting on Miles and Menus daily.  those to things keep me honest.

I think it's so true that 1 oz can easily become 2.  I feel like I'm pretty much back on track, but I wi**** came without thinking about it. Oh well, at least I'm going in the right direction.

Good for you to realize you have some control over what happens to you. I started the 5 day pouch test yesterday, since I am experiencing slow loss, creeping carbs. Much like you.

This is our honeymoon and the time to learn what works and what doesn't for the long haul.

Congratulations on the losses and the insights!
