Anyone have any experience with uterine ablation?
Well just saw my ob-gyn and he is recommending uterine ablation. I was just wondering if anyone here has had one, or know someone that has had one?
If it helps with my low iron and anemia, it will be worth it I guess. I need to have a endometerial biopsy first. So wish me luck I guess.
Thanks!

I do. I had the NovaSure about 4 years ago. EAzy peazy outpatient surgery. oozed a bit the first week, a tiny bit of cramping day of surgery, but my LEEP procedure was SO MUCH WORSE in the healing.
My cycles were kitten-sized clot heavy. ugg, where you felt like just staying in the shower all day. for the first year after my ablation I could wear a single panty liner all day and not leak out. After the first year, my cycle was gone for about a year and a half and now its back. But again, its back to the single panty liner situation. I, personally use cups instead of tampons because I have a conspiracy theory about them :} but - point being, VERY light flow.
Cramps, I still get them, but not like before. My anemia was still an issue afterwards, but as I see now, it was probably because my ferritin has probably been in the crapper for a long while, and folks were just checking the H&H.
Some folks have severe pain afterwards, but that ttends to be folks who have tubals AND the ablation at the same time.
Good luck. Like with my sleeve, I would have an ablation once a year to just be able to not spend the week of my cycle wishing I could work in the shower! :}

Thanks Brandilynn!
The past 3 months I cant go anywhere without a change of clothing. Especially at work with all the lifting. Even getting tough on my days off to work out when its a heavy day.
After reading up on the ablation, I wasnt too sure it was for me. Alot of women seem to have pain issues post procedure and longer.
Thanks for a positive one!

I think the reason you read so much negative is the same reason why some folks get scared when they are not nauseous after eating with wls, or have no problems with constipation, or being able to drink - folks who do not have issues usually do not mention it, or have not had need to find a place to ask "has this happened to you?!?"
Something to look at about the pain is if they had scarring issues (like with having the tubal and the ablation at the same time).
Also, its possible that the type would make a difference? Novasure (which is electrical burning off of tissues) versus cold rollerball kind, versus some other hot kind.
Another reason why some ladies have troubles with persistent bleeding and pain is because they do not have a typically shaped uterus - it may be too big for the web (for the novasure) or it may be bicornate (having 2 horns, so the mesh web cannot reach all the places to burn off the tissue) but they should do a vaginal ultrasound on you and sound your uterus to see its shape.
I know a good 20 ladies who have had it done without issue on a forum where folks speak up about things that they feel strongly about! :} I think the reason you find mostly pain stories is like the deal with being able to drink, or not nauseous, or whatever, folks with no issues are reading some other funny blog :}
You are welcome, I hope you get some more input. It really has been nice to not have to take a "diaper bag" everywhere, or a change of clothes. :{ boo to that.

I had NovaSure in August exactly 1 monyh after my sleeve. My experience mirrors Brandy's.
I LOVE IT. I have minimal cramping, no bleeding. No regrets at all----except I wish I had it sooner.

Maria - I had the ablation and LOVED it!! It was back in '99. My period never did go away but it was MUCH lighter with virtually NO cramping.
It lasts no more than 3 days with 1-2 pads the first day, and 1 a day after that. That's it.

I had it done at the same time I had my bladder suspended. My cycles pre were 7-14 days long, and super heavy. Afterward they got really light fast and then stopped for about 3 years. Then they started coming back getting heavier and heavier (but never what they were pre). I went to the doc and they found a cantaloupe size growth in my uterus, and I had a hysterectomy shortly after.
If you are done having children, I think it is a great option. I still cramped some, but being free from the pee-like bleeding for 7+ days a month was so liberating.
