Thanks everyone for your replies and they are all very helpful!

WLS is such a journey! Such a new and unbelievable experience. I can't wait to start my own journey and hopefully I have less bumbs than smooth highway :) I will be calling my insurance later this week to see if they recieve my information. Then next week I plan to send my husband, who is a guru for insurance, to harrass (harrass in a good way) them till i am approved.

Welcome to the LW board and congratulations on getting your date.

My surgeon set my goal weight at 140 (that was 80% of what I needed to lose to be at a normal weight).  I was thinking I would be thrilled to get to 140.  Got there and went right on past it.  My next goal was to have a normal BMI - 132 pounds.  Got there - took a little longer because I played around with some things I shouldn't have and did not exercise.  I am now about 6 pounds below that and am very comfortable here.  I have increased the exercise and really started watching the carbs because they can be sooooo addictive!!

I really tried to stay on the program for the entire first year.  I did add the protein shakes which my surgeon's office does not like.  They just help me so much and make me feel better.

Good luck and be sure to keep us updated on your progress.  I bet you will hit goal in no time!!

Yes, i think we 'lightweights' have an easier time reaching our ideal weights than our more morbidly obese counterparts. i am so grateful i decided to do this before i got any bigger.
i went to my 1 year follow up last week and lost 103% of my excess weight so i couldn't be happier! i often get the comments 'Aren't you getting too thin"? And i just say 'I am now at my junior year in high school"! i also point out that both of my doctors are monitoring me, and are very pleased with where I am.
I am sure you will be very pleased with what your WLS will do for you. Good luck!
