Emotional Dessert........a Retreat.

This past weekend I attended a retreat led by Katie Jay, Director of NAWLS.  MajorMom recently reposted some info about Katie.  She is a fellow WLS person and also a social worker.  The retreat was very healing and helpful, especially to those of us who feel that we relied on food for self care.  The retreat really helped me learn some more about mindful eating as well as the need to explore new ways to self care and to help me with my emotional eating.  I know this is not an issue for everyone who needed weight loss surgery but for me, my weight gain was due to MANY issues, including self medicating with food.

Katie sometimes does a 1 day workshop which is pretty affordable (I went to one last year pre-surgery) and I encourage anyone to attend, especially if you are struggling on this journey.  It IS a journey and I know this retreat has helped me add to the emotional dessert in my life.

Blessings,

Jennifer

She offers workshops in various states every so often....NOT that often but you can check out her site....google NAWLS.....she offers a retreat twice a year I think.  There were women at the retreat from different places.....only two of us were from NC.

I so appreciate Katie Jay- she does good work and is a very good workshop leader- gentle, loving, creative, and encouraging. She is great for post-WLS long term support.

I have done a one day workshop with her, and look forward to doing more when I can. She is doing a retreat in New York state this weekend that I can't make.

She also has books and CDs that are helpful.

"Support fosters your growth. If you are getting enough of the right support, you will experience a major transformation in yourself. You will discover a sense of empowerment and peace you have never before experienced. You will come to believe you can overcome your challenges and find some joy in this world." Katie Jay

Anne....I am glad someone else on here is familiar with her......I was unsure when I went to her seminar last year but she was wonderful and is truly in this same journey as we are.

Seaview.....I get it......it is a struggle but I am trying to learn every tool I can to help me with my dependence on food as well as learning new ways to self care.  Good luck to you especially during this week of renewal/refreshment!!!

Seaview.....she really is helpful (and kind!).  She reads a lot and researches a lot and is in this battle herself....also you can sign up for her free emails she calls small bites....I always enjoy them and share them with a friend at work who struggles but has not had weight loss surgery.

I wish you the best in this journey....you have done great and I am always impressed with those who are further out than me....I NEED mentors!!!!
