Nuts after RNY???

I read a lot of posts here that talk about people eating almonds, pecans, peanuts and walnuts post op.  On my Kaiser "bible" it says to avoid ALL nuts basically forever.  Could you explain why they would want me to avoid nuts?  Do you think when I'm further out I could have nuts safely?  Another item on that list was corn.  Would love to hear from you.

I was probably atleast 6 months out before I started eating nuts.  I can have them and don't have any problems with them other than they are a food I can't control very well.  I've had to stop buying them and taking them in my house.  I think my plan did not allow them for maybe 3 or 6 months.

I hardly ever eat corn anymore just because of the carbs.  I might eat a spoonful if I cook it at a holiday or for someone's birthday.  I probably tried corn after the nuts.

I would wait as long as I could before adding any bad carbs.

Linda,
Thanks for your suggestions.  I wasn't planning on eating them because Kaiser said to avoid them.  I just was curious why so many people talk about eating them.  I thought Kaiser didn't want me to have them because it would cause a problem for my pouch.  As for corn, I happen to love it but won't be eating eat either because it's on that DARN list of foods to avoid!  I'm sure I will find something else healthy to take it's place.  Thanks for your input.

I'm not sure that either was ever on my approved list.  I know if they were it was way after 6 month.  My group was pretty conservative.  The corn was carbs and the shell.  Don't know about the nuts.  I still don't do corn unless it is in something I am served.  I love nuts but avoid them because who can eat 6 or whatever the serving size is.  I don't keep them in the house and when I am traveling, I look at them when I am wanting a snack and see the stats and pass them up.

Price,
I know that nuts are protein but super high in calories.  I thought the reason they didn't want me to have them is because it would cause a problem for my pouch.  I wasn't going there, but was just curious why so many people seem to talk about eating them etc.  Thanks for you input.  Have a great cruise!

RNY on 09/14/11 with
nuts are only verboten for me during the puree stage.  I don't eat a lot of them anyway, but I like them sometimes.

I don't recall being told to avoid any foods forever, just a warning abou****ching carbs and things.  I would guess maybe they don't want you to eat them because of the fat and calories and because they are easy to overdo but I'm not sure.  Maybe you can ask your NUT next time you see her.

You will be able to have Nuts safely but if you are like me it will be hard to stop eating.  I've found that I get a tummy ache when I eat nuts but I still don't stop until they are gone.  I usually only buy the 100 calorie packs because that keeps me under control.

I limit my corn only because on WW it was considered a carb and so is peas.  I love both of them but rarely have them.
