OT bladder surgery and self cathatering

Please forgive me for posting here, not sure where to go for support.  I have not posted here much lately.  Lost the link to the forum.  Anyway, I had a hysterectomy 11/2010.  I have had leaking problem and infections ever since.  After several courses of action, urologist is operating Tues to put bladder back in place and to correct some colon problems.  Also bladder does not empty as it should on it's own.

Well I am told there is a chance--one in three that I will have to self-catheter long term-- like forever.  I have been trained and it does not seem to be too big a deal but the thought of dealing with this forever makes me a bit upset.  Any thoughts or advise?

I never was told about the 1:3 chance...I think I would have had second thoughts. I had a hysti and bladder lift and the rest a year ago. No problems...knock on wood. Everything is much better now. Good luck with this next surgery. I hope you aren't the 1 in 3.

Thanks,  My bladder does not work properly.  The muscles do not work right causing it to empty.  I think I have an unusual bladder.  I had two large babies years ago that made my bladder come lose.  After the uterus was removed last year, the bladder fell and my leaking problem began.

I have had second thoughts, too.  The thought of dealing with his leaking has really made me decide to go ahead and try to fix it.  I have a fear of being old with no one to help me and have this problem.

Prayers or swinging whatever will be appreciated.

I hope that all goes well, and you are the 2 out of 3 who does well.

Thanks, me too.  The doctor's office arranged for 120 catheter to be shipped to me.  I sure hope I do not need them.  I had a 'training session' with his nurse.  He wanted me to know how to use them and not have to learn after surgery.

Swinging my cats for you, Ruby. I had a bladder suspension and A&P repair a couple of years ago. I ended up going home with a catheter for about 10 days. It took about 7 days for my bladder to wake up and start working again.

Hope all goes well.

After my hystorectomy, I went home with a catheter and my bladder started working a few days later, but I do not empty completely.  This time, different surgeon, says I will not go home with catheter.  He wants me to start self-catheterizing before I go home.  He says I may have to do this FOREVER.  I have several problems.

When I had my hystrectomy, I had a bladder lift and rebuild of the vaginal wall.  It was the toughest surgery I have had but I never lost bladder function.

I'm swinging you will be fine.  Sorry you are having to do this but maybe in the long run it will be as good as WLS has been

Thanks Price.  I sure hope so.  WLS has been a real blessing.
