Still Alive
After all the time that I spent learning about all the wls, I thought I knew what to expect. Wrong. Thought I was going to die. Never hurt so bad in my life.
Now here is the reason I'm posting. Every time I got within earshot of a nurse, I would start in with how much pain I was in. Long story short, when my nurse came in to my room to take my bp I exploded. I said some things that I'm ashamed of. Then she tells me that she knew I was in pain, but could not give me anything for it until I asked for pain meds. How stupid is that?

Ridiculous! Sounds like the dark ages. Hang in there. Home will be much better.

Ugh -- so sorry this happened to you! I, too, had the pain pump. My bariatric group went over pain meds and what to do in the 6 month class I had to take pre-op. I guess, in hindsight, they did a pretty good job educating me!
Make sure you get your RX for liquid pain meds when you leave.
Good luck --- you'll be home soon and this will be a distant memory!

I hope things get easier for you! I thought I had learned everything about wls, too. I do research for a living for goodness sake. It's one thing reading...but another thing living.
I read other's experiences with not being able to eat...pain..etc. Deep down I just didn't think that would happen to me. I am 5 weeks out and I celebrate if I get all my protein, liquid and vitamins down. I still can't eat more than 3 teaspoons of food at one time. I dread going to get my labs done next week..I fear I'm going to be in a huge nutritional deficit.
But, it is what it is. I have NEVER said I regret having the surgery. Has my recovery been challenging...heck yeah.
I've lost almost 30 lbs in a mere 36 days.
Everyone who has traveled the road before us assures us it will get easier.
I trust them.
Hang in there, Darlin'. Next summer when we're all sleek and sexy we'll forget these trying times...
