Doctor Visit

So I saw my surgeon today about my weight loss.  Just like I was worried about he said that he wants me to come back in a week and if I have lost any weight he would put me in the hospital for a feeding tube.
He also wants me to bring in my food diary.  I am going to do the best I can to get in as much calories I can without dumping.  This should be fun.
My records show that I have lost 2lbs since my last visit on 9/9/2011.  He wants me at 130 to 135.  I know I look good at that weight but right now that seems unobtainable.  At this point I just want to stop losing.

What about Creon? They're just going to pump you full of sugar. {sigh}

I think that is why is wants my food diary.  It won't do any good if my problem is intake and not malabsorption.
How does a feeding tube work?  I know they can't put one in my remnant stomach because I don't have one.  Is he talking about TPN?

I had to look it up. Apparently the TPN goes straight into your blood stream. Link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parenteral_nutrition

It sounds like he is talking about a J tube, which goes into the jejunum.  There is no way I could have a tube in my stomach.  I think I would prefer TPN.  Hell, I would prefer none of those.  I think I am going to have to forget my comfort level and risk some dumping so I don't lose any more weight.  Not looking forward to that.

I don't remember the name of the stuff they gave me in the hospital and then when I came home but it was really high protein and not alot of sugar - it was used for RNY patients.  They gave me 4 cans per night for 120 grams of protein and 780 calories, I think.  The stuff worked really well - it went into my remnant through a g tube - wasn't fun.  Stopped my massive weight loss.  Then last month when I couldn't gain anything back, they put me on Pancrease 4200 and that really worked - actually worked too well - took it for 3 weeks and stopped - gained 15 pounds.  That is what I wanted to gain.  Now I am fine, if I gain some more on my own I am fine but I dont' want to do it intentionally.  My doctors still say I am malnurished so they are sending me to specialist for nutrition, digestive disorders and holistic healing.  I am not usually a fan of this but she actually used to be my hematologist and she gave up her practice in hematology to open this practice for hard to diagnose patients.   Being she already knows me and alot of my problems, I thought she might be a good person to start with.  She does alot with vitamin deficiencies - not just the normal ones that everyone does = the abstract one that no one usually tests for.

I don't trust Tazz's surgeon any further than I can throw him. Their program and post-op knowledge has got to be the worst I've heard of. I agree with one of your posts that suggests to try pancreatic enzyme first. Creon is a digestive enzyme and it may work very much like what you suggested.

I am going to suggest Creon before I get tube feedings, if necessary.  I'll see if there is a good reason I shouldn't be on it.
I'm also going to talk to my new PCP when I see her pretty soon.

Swinging lizards that there is a happy medium and a way to put back enough weight but in a controlled way.
