Good Morning. I like my NUT
Qualities of a good NUT (a.k.a. Registered Dietitian)
1) Listens to his/her patient
2) Recognizes eating patterns may be physically induced, personal preference or psychological predisposition, and not a character flaw
3) Recognizes that some WLSs may not help the person be successful due to number 2 above.
4) Follows your labs with you and helps you meet your objectives
5) Teaches you about your labs and tells you what vitamin/mineral interferes with what
6) Continues to research and learn, bu****ches her patients' labs for trends to see if the things she's reading match what she sees in her patients
7) Is open to the fact that a "well balanced" diet may not work for formerly obese people as our bodies may not fit the norm
8) Does not blindly preach or lecture
9) Celebrates your success with you
What do like about your NUT and what are good qualities for a NUT to have?

I have taken what you all know and from Vitalady and go from there, so far I have not had any vitamin problems so I must be doing something right. As far as nutrition, I dont know, I am still doing the protein first then veggies then any extra. Never really have room after protein though.

As far as my labs, I read here or have had Michelle look at them when she was "stuck" here.

They are always available, if I call or e-mail them and they offer individual appointments for people that request it.
The labs are followed by the bariatric internist, who is good at following trends. The major problem is that only about 30% of people follow-up after the first year.
At my one year vist, the Nut called me, a "Superstar." I liked that. She also asked me, how they could help other people be successful. I like the fact that they are open minded and have numerous handouts with acceptable fast food choices, sources of protein, how to eat out, reactive hypoglycemia, a vtamin chart, and numerous others. They have done a lot of research and the program binder is a wealth of wonderful information.
So, my program Nuts have been helpful, but this website has also filled in some gaps and added another dimension to what I have available to me,

My surgeon goes over my labs and signs off on them before anyone is allowed to discuss them with you. The PA went over mine with me this year and made suggestions.

I think one thing I loved about my NUT is that she genuinely cared about us. She definitely listened too. Also, she didn't act superior because she was the NUT but recognized that a lot of us are highly successful people in our own fields.
In some practices, there seems to be this attitude that they are the experts and we are a bunch of morons who have to be shown the one, true (their) way.
