Good Morning. Just read another NUT story..

...from one of our DSrs in the military system, not sure where unless it's Madigan where they perform the DS.  Anyway, the NUT advice there is only 3 grams of fat per meal (sounds like they're ok with 6 little meals a day), 130 grams of carbs a day and 5 or 6 vitamins a day. What is with this kind of stupid advice?! Even normal people who don't malabsorb fat need 30 grams a day of healthy fats and new studies are showing high protein and low carb is the best for long term weight loss and maintenance. Sigh...they're setting their folks up for bad constipation, stalls in WL, hemorrhoids and bowel obstructions. Lord, I wish some of these NUTs had to follow their own advice!

Y'all have a great Wednesday! What's on your list to do today? I have carpet cleaners coming in today and will be totally embarrassed by the doggy stains...{sigh}

I saw that post on FB and was appalled. More than a year before my revision I met with different nutritionists, one when I started on Insulin and the other in a Bariatric office (not Dr. K). I was so confused. One said at least 220 carbs a day with limited protein and the other said 80 gm protein with at least 120 carbs/day.

It is frightening was post op WLS patients are being advised.

Today: walk, odds and ends around the house, and work on a Christmas stocking.

I read a better on yestarday, it was a newbie - 2 weeks out RNY - NUT or surgeon not sure - told her to eat 8 ounces per meal and 1200 calories per day and expects her to lose weight and not stretch out her pouch at 2 weeks out. How can you possibly get 8 ounces into a newly made pouch? I couldn't eat more than 3 -4 ounces for 6 months.

Appointments with ortho surgeon and PCP went fine yesterday.  Ortho surgeon is awaiting clearance from PCP for surgery scheduling, which she did while I was there so they should be calling soon to schedule.

From the PCP, we didn't even discuss labs which was ok since I had already discussed them with my WLS group.  We did talk about an umbilical hernia, or insicional hernia that she is sending me to a surgoen to access.  I've had it since WLS and mostly it has been fine but sometimes is pretty painful.  At the same time, she wants them to look at 2 lumps on my scalp which are probably just cysts but have gotten pretty large, like the end of your thumb.

She took off my last BP med so now, other than prilosec, I am med free, wooooooo hooooo.

She also said my weight loss was wonderful and I was now normal BMI, then said "I know folks who gain it all back".  I was pretty shocked that she said that at my lowest weight she has ever seen.  I agreed and said I was working on ways to not have that happen.  She never mentioned stopping now or being "at goal" and I didn't either.  We also didn't discuss it at the WLS office when I saw them earlier this month so I must not be looking too gaunt yet.  So I'll just keep on and see where this journey takes me.

Today is packing for the show this weekend, having the farrier here to trim and shoe everyone and getting caught up on paperwork to be gone over the weekend, home Mon, gone again for a week.  Life is crazy busy.

Price,
You said that the farrier is coming out today.  Makes me remember how much my old dog Rowdy used to love to chew on those hooves.  I haven't had horses for 15 years, but have some great memories.  Have a great day.

I woke up at 6:53 this morning.  WTF?  DH says I turned the alarm off and rolled over.  I don't remember doing it.  I started the day with a 7:00am conference call.  I managed to get a shower, but spent much of the call on mute getting dressed and drying my hair.

I've been very good about limiting the caffeine in my life.  Not today!  My butt is dragging.  I'm going to need it to get through the day.

I have my allergy testing this afternoon.  I'm ready to get it done and over with. I've been without my antihistamines for a week and I'm missing them.

Typical Wednesday.

WOW Gina...you are so right about the constipation and I was a witness to how terrible that can be.  Then I rememberd that on WW we were told we had to have fats every day and that and 1 colace has changed my life for the better.   You would think that all health care professionals would have similiar training.

I don't know how far out you are but I am 14 months out and I don't even get in 2 cups of protein foods unless you count shakes.
The vitamins are way insufficient, too.  Go to Vitalady and check out her recommendations.
Flintstones?  Really?  My NUT suggests those, too.  Where do they get their training?
My programs recommendations are so bad it is no wonder I got so sick.  And no wonder that they are seeing all these complications for the DS's they did years ago.  Many people have no other information other then what they get from the surgeon's office and if they follow those, and with the minimal labs they do, they could be dead.  Seriously.  It is a very good thing they don't do the DS any more.  You would think that when they started seeing all those problems they would have tweaked their program instead of eliminating the surgery.  I guess fear of litigation will do that.
I would like to see some kind of standardized instructions for all WLS patients.  Consistency would be nice.  The ASMBS should develop universal guidelines for all the surgery types, at the very least.  It is amazing some of the things that NUTs and even surgeons pull out of their asses.
