Internal Inflamation around largest incision
I'm hoping someone has had something similar and can offer advice.
After my surgery on 8/31/11, the first day home I sort of gave up on the pain meds. I am hyper-sensative to narcotics and I just couldn't stand that "dopey" sick feeling I had. As soon as the meds were out of my system, I began to feel much better. I began walking right away on my treadmill and I made it my goal to go a little further and faster every day. After the first week, I noticed a sharp pain near the largest incision (lap rny) on my right abdomen. I really didn't heed it and it began to bother me. I kept up the walking for another week--having to hold a small pillow when I did. I went back to work (non-active job) on the 14th day post op. I did OK the first day, however the second day, the pain in that spot was nearly unbearable. I left work after 5 hours. It was so severe by the time I got home, I called the surgeon's office and visited them the next day. He said there seemed to be a hematoma behind the incision. I was skeptical and refused the pain meds. When I lie flat, it doesn't hurt at all. However, after sitting at my desk, or with constant movement, it flares up and I can't even stand fully upright.
I went back for my 3 week checkup with the Surgeon and he sent me for a CT scan. He said there only appears to be inflamation around the incision site on my abdominals. I am normally a tough cookie. I went back to work 4 weeks after both my kids. I returned to work 2 days after gallbladder removal. This pain, however is HORRIBLE. If it was constant, I'd probably have to stand in traffic. Luckily, it is only horribly unbearable after I sit too long, or if I walk too far.
Has anyone experienced this...and how long will it last?
Again, I just don't do well with pain meds...I don't have a lot of choice but to grin and bear it...but I would love to hear from somebody who has experienced it.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear you're still struggling! Has the nausea subsided finally? I'm finally on the other side as of Monday. Things are going well, so far...just having cravings...been dreaming about doughnuts of all things (not something I would have regularly)? Sorry I'm not much help! Talk soon!
I had one spot of my incision that didn't heal completely (I had open surgery for bowel obstruction and perforated colon) - when I went back to have the staples out - this one spot really hurt and it wasn't totally closed and upon inspection - the surgeon said it looked totally inflamed and possibly infected. She said it needed to be opened and drained. She injected me with a local anesthetic and cut open the incision about 1 inch and pressed - it was very painful when she pressed - tons of blood and stuff came pouring out. She then packed it with a type of string gauze and covered it. I had to change the packing daily until the it closed on its own.
Do you have a fever? Does it hurt to touch? I could never get by without narcotics, you are one tough cookie. I would watch it and if not better in a week or so, I would go back to have it checked again.
