Hunger Monster
It finally happened to me, a little a year after my surgery..my hunger has come back FULL force! I have been on track though for the most part..drinking my protein drink first thing in the morning and focusing on protein all day except for snacks where I eat my fruits and veggies..but still the hunger is there and I noticed a trend of eating "off plan" at times. I think maybe I will add another protein drink in between lunch and dinner, maybe that will help. Oh, I remember the good days when I had NO hunger..I so miss that!! Newbies, please embrace that period and loose all you can..I can tell this hunger I now have will make loosing and maintaing a little harder..
I do have hunger but it is different than pre-surgery. But I also am eating all the time these days, protein in my coffee, 4 meals and protein shake at the end of the day. With that and fluids, I alway have something in my hand, it seems. DH even commented the other day that the only reason I had surgery was so I could eat all the time. He only eats 2 meals a day so I guess my little bits often do seem to him I am eating all time. Maybe if you added or made your afternoon snack protein you wouldn't be as hungry?

I am going to try that..because it is definately a lot of 'head' hunger I think..I have had some "hunger" up until now but nothing like this..I think also part of it is recently my carbs started creeping up to close to 100 grams..I was getting no more than 65-70 at most...I know carbs make me want to eat more carbs..and im not eating "bad" carbs but I am eating things like chicken and vegetable soup which has a lot of carbs in it and then my dinners have been high in carbs lately too..
If your carbs are going up, that could be a big part of it. Remember what Roz says, watch those carbs. I find I do better with 30 or less although mine have been around 50 on days lately. They are still 30 or less most days.

I think it is the problem..today I was really hungry pretty much all day even though I added a second protein shake in the afternoon...I have been snacking on apples, pretzels, and a trail mix which is surprisingly high in cabs..sooo I really gotta go back to the snacking on cheese and turkey pepperoni instead..this hunger thing is the pits!
I experienced hunger soon after surgery....probably within a month. So, I understand and am often NOT happy when I ready about people who rarely experience it years out. Eating protein, protein, protein really does help. Also, protein shakes used as a snack also help. I eat every 2-3 hrs usually....the good thing is I have a good amount of restriction so I am full quick and satisfied. I know this a big adjustment for you....

Jennifer, eating every 2-3 hours is definitely not a problem :) as I am eating like constantly in the past 2 weeks..its kind of scary! I did add one an additional protein shake though, going to lower my carbs big time..didn't realize how out of hand it was getting until I started using my food tracker regularly again, and going to make sure I get my water in throughout the day..which has been an issue with me very recently...sigh..
I'm like Jennifer, and am hungry all the time. I am so hungry that it makes me nauseas.
But if I eat a lot, I get stomach cramps. So I take Price's approach - a just a little bit for meals, and protein shakes otherwise. If I ate carbs, I would go on a feeding frenzy until I got sick....And considering that I'm having trouble keeping most solid food down, it wouldn't take long

Eliza.....I am glad to know I am not alone!!!!!! I wish SOMEONE had told me that hunger may be an issue early out......
As long as I eat/drink pretty regularly the hunger stays manageable....small meals are the way to go.....and protein focused. Hang in there.....it gets way easier as you can eat more regular/solid food although I still have a very limited diet!
