Update on Adult ADHD and RNY~
Well the good news is I have slept this weekend! My PCP said she didn't see the need in getting me an actual ADHD diagnosis if it is something I have delt with my entire life and haven't had to have any meds until this point I probably wouldn't benefit from them because of absorption issues. She said that if we deal directly with the sleep issues first the ADHD would calm down and be more manageable. She said she didn't want to put me on anything hardcore. At 111lbs she said it would be hard for me to get it out of my system and not feel groggy the next day. She suggested taking meletonin at night before I go to bed. She also gave me some zanax to calm me on really bad nights. So far I havent' had to take any zanax the meletonin is working great. It's kind of like a readi tab and dissolves in my mouth. I take it 20 minutes before bedtime. I have actually dreamed the last 2 nights. It has been months since I dreamed. I guess that means I am actually getting into a deep sleep. I am feeling better and the brain fog is getting better.
it's great that the easy, cheap, natural thing is working and that your Dr was willing to do that before expensive stuff with side effects.
Glad you are doing better.

glad you are sleeping now and feeling better...on the otherhand, I find her dismissiveness of your symptoms a little irritating, she was willing to give you zanax but not adhd meds..umm okay that doesn't make a lot of sense to me..also most of the meds only last 6 hours even though they say they are suppose to last 12 they really don't..anyway, like I said im glad you are sleeping but if you still feel like you need help I would seek a second opinion.
I have to agree with Aspan. I was diagnosed a year ago. The neuro told me that he believed I had this since childhood but nobody knew about ADHD back when I was born. His theory was that I had it all of my life but had compensated for it in other ways. I only started experiencing and paying attention to the symptoms since I am older now and can't compensate as well.
Extra sleep never did help. Most physicians are reluctant to prescribe Xanax because it can be addictive. The ADHD meds did help but they took away my appetite and I would forget to eat. I was fearful that I would continue to lose. Now that I have maintained at the same weight within 4 pounds for the last several months, I am going to try them again.
What is the specialty of the dr. who made the diagnosis? It often takes a neurologist and/or psychiatrist to get a proper diagnosis. Regardless of the specialty, I would seek a second opinion.
