Vitamin question - stomach bothers me
Hi,
Because of working 12 hour days, when I take my bedtime vitamins it is usually late and when I go to bed my stomach becomes a little upset. I just switched from Centrum chewables to a generic multi-vitamin. I also take my Vit B complex vitamin at the same time.
It may be because I am taking these vitamins and then going straight to bed. Anyone have any other ideas? Are there any vitamins that are not so hard on the stomach?
Thanks a lot!
Lynn

I usually take my vitamins with food and I think that not only helps them be absorbed but helps with stomach upset.

I hate to sound so dense, but you eat a snack or something with them? Do you take them at bedtime? I am not "supposed" to have any snacks at all, but I am going to have to do something. The calcium tablets are taken right after eating my meals and I cannot take the calcium with the multi-vitamin.
thanks!
thanks!
I take mine 4 times a day, with meals and snacks. So one dose with breakfast, one with lunch, one with my afternoon snack, and one with dinner. Except because of my schedule that dose is often with my evening snack instead.
As for not having any snacks at all.... don't get me started on that! LOL Seriously, it is normal to get hungry every 3-4 hours. If you eat lunch at noon, it's way more than 3-4 hours until dinner. Yet these programs expect us to eat only 3 meals a day? That's crazy! And bad for keeping our blood sugar even.
Plus, if you are on maintenance and you need more than about 1200 calories a day, there is no way to get that in with just 3 meals. I have to get in 2000 calories in the summer when I'm training for an IM. I have to eat every 2 hours to do that. Now, most people arent' eating that many calories, but a lot of us are eating, say, 1500. I think 1500 a day requires an afternoon snack, myself.
But during the losing phase, I didn't have snacks of food, at least not in the beginning. But I did have protein shakes and protein drinks in between my "meals" and you can take your vitamins with those.

Take your multi-vit a couple of hours after taking your calcium. Does your multi-vit have iron? Is that why you need to separate them? The other B-vitamins and vitamin D can be taken with meals and calcium.
I usually take my vitamins after eating. Sometimes the B-vitamins can be upsetting for a new sleeve. Take the B-vitamins after you eat something and are first up for the day or with one of your meals during the daytime.

Remember I have a cast iron pouch but I take mine right before bed, however, I have just finished my last protein shake of the day. If I make it with milk, actually soy milk, I get heartburn bu****er is fine.
DH says to take the Bcomplex in the morning instead of at night because it will be too energizing. I don't do iron, post menopause, levels are fine, so I don't have to seperate anything but calcuim for absorption. Sure makes life easier.

I bring a Ziploc bag with my day's vitamins to work. I take a whole bunch a breakfast, the 2 hours later when I refill my water bottle, I take calcium citrate, then at lunch another calcium citrate, then mid afternoon, iron, then around dinner the last calcium citrate. The vitamins are so big, they are like a snack!
I have trouble with Actigall. When my stomach is not feeling great, and I take Actigall, it is like I put an atom bomb down there.
