Gettin scoped on Tuesday

I talked to the Dr. and without the g-tube he would hospitalize me. Instead he told me I could stop trying to eat (mainly only clear/full liquids) if I wanted to, and start taking extra fluid and protein through the tube. Then on Tuesday, he will go down with the scope and see what's going on. He warned me in the beginning of the symptoms of strictures at the TOP of my pouch because of work he had to do there, but told me today that it sounds like the more common RNY stricture at the bottom of the pouch leading to the stoma. YAY!!! I'm common!!!!  HaHaHa!!!!

Anyhoo, Hopefully it won't be anything serious. I'll let you all know what's going on as soon after as I can. You guys are the greatest, as usual!!!!  Thanks for the suppor,t advice, and well wishes!

Im  just going to weigh in  on your dilemma  according to what im THINKING   which may not be  totally politically Correct lol ..

but Im  a VERY   demanding , noisy , skeptical  patient myself .   Also a very healthy one .

I dont understand the whole G -tube thing .    I had a lot of work done too  at the top of my pouch because i had an ENORMOUS hiatal hernia .

and it hurt for like eight weeks  ... even to  expand my chest and BREATHE .

But  I  ATE  anyway .   I think  eating and digesting helps  make Ur alimentary canal / pouch heal strricture- free .

I just dont get  a doctor that allows his patient  NOT to eat then is surprisedwhen she ends up with a sricture  .

The people  who have some of the biggest  problem s  are the ones who cant  keep food down.   If it was me .. id be eating TINY  amount s  all the time  ..just to get my system to work .   Id be stretching it out very gently myslef through  EATING   .....

You don't understand my g-tube "thing" because you don't know the pre existing conditions that required me to have one. My surgeon does not routinely put g-tubes in his WLS patients. I could go into detail about why I specifically needed one, but I am choosing not to here on this forum. I also had many problems other than the hernia that had to be worked with and overcome during surgery. Mine was not a typical WLS.

I also have to point out that my Dr. never encouraged me to NOT eat and up until Sunday, I was eating food and tolerating lots of different types of food. I was eating shrimp and chili. Meatloaf and roast with potatoes plus many other things.. Now, I wasn't able to eat much at a time but was following my Dr's recommendation of eating little and eating often.
Then on Sunday I started throwing up. At first it was just the more solid foods, but by last night I couldn't keep down thin mashed potatoes or even pudding and today it's been a struggle to get all of my fluids in. I have done nothing wrong that caused a stricture. And I doubt seriously that I could stretch it out myself with the soft foods that I am able to eat right now. Because of the severe vomiting my Dr did tell my to not worry about eating solids right now. I was told to focus on fluids and protein, which sounds like pretty common advice even to those without g-tubes.

Food for thought(pun intended) It might be that people have the trouble with food because they have strictures, not that they get strictures because they have trouble with food. But either way playing the blame game is much less than helpful in these situations.
Maybe I'm not being politically correct either, but I'm just trying to clear up your misinformation.                 -Julie

I also had a hiatial hernia repair at the top of my pouch, and couldn't breathe well for 3 weeks.    I'm still progressing more slowly with food than some -just now able to eat soft food (lactose free cheese)  after almost 6 weeks, but glad I didn't have a feeding tube!

Good luck on Tuesday.

Wish you the best of luck on Tuesday...I also had a hiatal hernia repair..the suregon said it was the biggest one had had repaired..it took me a long time to eat comfortably..really up until recently. I stayed on each phase way longer than what was recommended but I also did eat..I also don't really understand the G-Tube that some surgeons do. Anyway, hopefully it will be downhill for you from now on.

Note to previous posters:  I believe the g-tube might have been from other extenuating cir****tances... but my memory isn't always the best...

Julie, I'm so glad to hear that you are a common sort of patient.  That's good news and must mean they will get to the bottom of it (pun intended) and it will be smooth sailing from here on out!   Thanks for the updates!  You're a real trooper!

I don't know your total situation since I've been kinda avoiding the boards since all my complications. I just wanna say good luck. My G-tube is nothing but annoying( but I need it) and have had numerous scopes since surgery, and strictures that keep closing up after they are dilated. Good luck, hopefully it is nothing serious.
