All I've read about strictures says that they cause trouble getting food and drink down, and it seems like the vomiting is from the food or drink not passing through the stricture into the pouch. Am I understanding it correctly?

Now I know I've had some serious stress issues lately, and maybe that is my problem, but I'm finding it harder and harder to keep food down. It was just solids. I would eat and sometimes I would feel fine and other times it would come back up. Then All solids made me really nauseous no vomiting just blah.  I went back to mushies and full liquids. Everything passes into the pouch fine. No difficulty swallowing at all, but within 10 to 15 min. It's coming back up. Last night I threw up my 2 Tbs of mashed potatoes. I am afraid to eat now.  Does this sound like a stricture to you guys? I DO NOT want to call the Dr, again if this is just the normal healing process of RNY at 6 weeks out. Or if this is how pouches respond to lots of stress?

Anyhoo. Thanks in advance for any ideas or insight you can share. Oh, I've been drinking my protein and getting about 90 grams a day so no problem there! It's just food my pouch hates! LOL                               -Julie

Call you doctor.  It is his job to worry about these things.  I have no idea if it is a stricture but if it is it can be taken care of fairly easily.  They will need to do a scope and see how things look.  This is not normal, at least for me it wasn't.  I threw up a few times in the first few months but not often enough to be a concern.

Thanks for responding and the great advice. I have a call into the dr's office because you are so right. I know something isn't right or I wouldn't have posted about it. It's the doc's job to figure it out. Thanks again.                                                   -Julie

There is a slight possibility that you are eating too much. But it's more likely it's a stricture. If you are reluctant to call the doc, why not give yourself one day of eating half  the volume you normally eat and see if that helps?

I am supposed to be able to eat almost a cup by now, according to plan. I rarely even eat the whole 2 Tbs I measure out. When looking back at how I have gone backwards in progression I realized that it can't be normal and stricture or not I was going to have to bug the Dr, Again. So, I called and I'm waiting for the nurse to call back. Thanks for the response and advice.                  -Julie

No way?!- a cup is like what most RNY eat 1 year out.  1/4 is about 2 months out...1/2 is about 6 months etc according to my clinic (u may want to double check seriously).  But I agree a few tablespoons of mush should stay.  I hope the Dr is able to give you some input.  I know I was advised when I would throw up to go back to liquids for the day or 2 to allow it all to calm down, and slowly re-introduce food back.  Even the mushy foods.  Hugs--I have you in my thoughts.

My post-op guide says that it's possible for it take take 3 months to make the progression from liquid to solid foods and that's not necessarily a problem. 2 TBSP seems about right for where you are and maybe even too much sometimes. So, on the one hand, it's not necessarily a problem that you are where you are and it's possible you've just irritated your pouch and it's fighting back.

OTOH, the guide also says that backwards progression is not normal and to call the office if that happens.

So my program would have you call the office but would also be reassuring that you don't *necessarily* have a problem.

I don't think it is a bad idea to call your dr.  it can not hurt to ask the question.  I know everyone is different but by 6 weeks out I cleared to eat all foods with no food restrictions.  I also did not have any complications.  You have been through SOO much to get healthy and you have to advocate for yourself.  I truly hope things get better for you soon. Oh an By the way...way to go on getting in your protein

I'm glad you called your Dr- that's what he/she is there for.

May you feel better soon!
