Taking Ur metformin as prescribed  might actually make U LOSE some weight  Grrl !!   it SPEEDS Ur metabolism a bit .

Did they take an A1 C  ?   that tells U how well U  have been controlling Ur blood sugarswings in the last 90  days .   If the total is over  7   ( a lot of people say 6.5 )  you HAVE to act  ... because  Ure allowimng the blood sugar swings to hurt Ur precious body ...

dont be afraid of taking  metformin.    many people do just great long term on it ...  and  I  also know others (  like myself )  that  took it and STOPPEDtaking it when their   AICs  got to a certain low level  .

Its not a PERMANENT  thing !!       - it can be very HELPFUL  in getting U to  optimal health   where U belong and then.... Sayonara Metformin ...

My understanding of diabetes meds is that they help you lose weight by decreasing insulin resistance. I know metaforin does this.

Thanks everyone-- No I am not offended by what anyone says.  I gave that up a long time ago- it takes a lot to offend me.  I will say I know that stress eating is completely unacceptable and it is a reason not an excuse.  I eat when I am stressed now (this has been a development in the recent years)---I am pretty education on diabetes and completely understand the consequences of not controlling your blood sugar (hell I have even helped counsel people on it), the risks to your entire body system including heart, eyes, nervous system, risk for infections- your immune system.  I get it, I know it, and I know what I need to do- that is my opposition to sitting through another lecture.  And because I am a grown up-  I am offended by their practice feeling like they can tell me I have to bring in signed slips that I have seen an eye Dr and that I have seen my dentist.  I do see my doctors regularly and its far beyond just because I am diabetic.  I have always even when my diabetes was in remission- treated myself as diabetic.  I wont ***** my self because it the past it has done nothing to help me trend my blood sugar.  I did and probably would agree on a short term basics to do it when I am put on a new medication...but not long term like I hear others doing.  Just isn't going to happen at this point in my life.  I know what my A1C is and I know what it was last time.  It's at a level for treatment.  Hence my questions about medication and problems gaining weight.

Besides being frustrated with dealing with a chronic condition- I am scared of the medications.  I hate medications and take as few as possible.  I was in the past on metformin- it gave me some very, very nasty GI issues for prolonged period of time (beyond the adjustment period)...then went to Actos.  Actos I had rapid weight gain...I wanted to know if other had these experiences on meds.  I want to see a Dr that gets that---not gaining any weight is of absolute importance---and understands that I am commented to change and being compliant but my compliance isn't going to be what they expect- I will work on ditching my comfort foods, and exercising more-- but I wont be bringing in my notes from providers.  If they want to check me- call the provider- waste their time and effort..I wont be validating their invasive programs.  I wont be allowing them to treat me like I am some kind of genetic or personal failure.

I now have an idea of other medications for avoid and that is helpful.  Thanks for your input--and I will let you know what I find out about my lab situation.  Thanks!
