Good Morning. Where did 30 grams of protein come from?
you are doing great with your protein - you are only one month out and getting 60 - 70grams at one month out is fabulous. There is absolutely no need for anyone to get 180grams of protein per day unless they have low protein levels. actually consistantly consuming protein levels around 200 grams per day can cause kidney problems as well as kidney stones. So, be careful with everything you read. have your labs checked often and adjust everything accordingly. As a newbie, getting 60-70 grams of protein is fine and then by 3 months, you want to increase to 80grams. By 6 months you want to be around 90 and by 1 year you should be at 100 plus. but again, this can all change depending on your labs. If your creatinine is too high, then you need to cut your protein. If your total protein and albumin are low - less than 6.8 or 4.0 respectively, then you need to increase your protein - ideally you want your total protein to be atleast 7.0-7.2 and your albumin to be atleast 4.2 or more.
keep on sipping = 4 ounces every 30 minutes.

My NUT says 60-80 gms protein per day. They say that we don't need more than that and it is just extra calories. I think I feel better when I do have more protein, but I am still learning all this at 2+ months out.
I am not to count carbs, or calories, just keep track on protein. I am supposed to have 3 meals per day and no snacks, but I do have a snack once in a while. They also want us to get to the point where we are not having to take in shakes (they know at this point it is impossible to do) down the road.
It is so confusing in a way with all the different NUT plans, etc. I have been pretty good overall at keeping my carbs low, but today I had 90 (total) carbs but still had over 100 of protein too.
It is a learning process. That's for sure. I love all the support on this site.
Thanks!

Your NUT sounds a lot like what my nut says to everyone..but during the last visit when she was super impressed with my weight loss I told her what I was doing and she totally supported it...you gotta do what feels right for you..for me that means eating or drinking a protein shake every 2-3 hours..
Sleevesters don't malabsorb, but we can maldigest. That is, we don't break down the food well enough in the sleeve so that all the nutrients can be absorbed in the intestines. Chewing well and eating slowly help with that but sometimes you need supplements too.
I just got my 3 year labs done so I will see how my protein levels are. My hair hardly ever falls out any more. It does it about as much as it did pre-op and I'm not counting protein grams any more and I know some days I don't get that much. We will see what my labs say... I should get them back in a few days.

This is why I point out that we can maldigest. Because some people with VSG seem to think that they are immune from these sorts of problems because they have all their intestines. Plus, if you use the word "malabsorb" not only is it not accurate but people do the "I can't HEAR you" thing.

I agree, and I hear you. I would glaze over malabsorb as well, but maldigest totally makes sense and I got it. Thank you! I wonder if bougie/sleeve size have any bearing on maldigesting. I wonder if the smaller the sleeve, the more prone to maldigesting we are.
I would be surprised if the difference was statistically significant until you go to very large differences in boughie size.
I think things that are at play are how much digestive fluid is in your stomach, how big your meals are and how fast they flow through you.
Two people with the same size stomach may have differnet levels of intrinsic factor, stomach acid, etc. just because of how much their body tells them to make. If you eat a lot at each sitting, you have a bigger volume of food to break down. If you don't chew well, the food is harder to break down.
My theory about why most VSGers have no issue with B12 is that most of us are eating so little food that the smaller amount of IF is still enough to break it down and get the B12 out of it. But for some people, it's not enough.

That makes sense. We're all built a little bit differently, or "mileage may vary". I have a friend who is a Natureopath doc, I remember when I first had the surgery she was worried about digestive juices, vitamins and something else??? I forgot. But, I remember her telling me to get sublingual B12 and D. Which I did. So far my labs are good, but I'm not even a year out ......let's see where the labs are a few years down the line. I'm hoping that eating a lot of protein, and taking all those vitamins helps keep those labs up.
