And I appreciate the information!  I might poke around and see how much the enzyme prescription costs and do a little cost benefit ratioing!

Thank you!  Have a good evenining!

My surgery was also self-pay and I have gotten everything ever done to me paid for since then. I think you should submit everything for insurance and get whatever doctor's visits you think you need. The worst that can happen is that they won't pay for something that you are already paying for now.

I have worked for 2 insurance companies and what I have seen is that them not paying for something I am already paying for is not the worst that can happen, they can start flagging everything I submit to them.  Insurance adjusters are trained how to *not* pay for stuff.  I dont have the ~insert proper word~ to fight an insurance company.  Then I not only get red flagged, but I also get to pay out of pocket for, and without "allowance adjustment" for all of the procedures that were done and denied.

The other thing too is cost/benefit.  I mean, if its not going to change the treatment course, or the cost of treatment, then paying extra and taking the chance on them flagging my submissions doesnt make sense to me.

If I have a broken toe, or suspect I have a broken toe, buddy taping it is going to be the fix.  My choice to pay extra for x-rays or submit myself to more radiation from x-rays isnt going to change the fact that buddy taping is the fix.

Whether they scope my belly or my butt, what they do or do not find about protein absorbing, I am going to be paying the same amount for digestive enzymes or for protein.  If my health is in jeopardy, then yes - it would be worth the fight, but to fight about X thing with an insurance company who has people who are paid to deal with folks just like me isnt worth the amount of stress it puts in my already overflowing cup.

In a perfect world where I didnt lose time or money or waste energy, or if my life and health depended on it, then absolutely it would be worth it, but at this point, shakes fix the deal, all my submissions arent flagged, and I have more frustration tolerance to deal with whatever work throws at meNfella and to deal with whether we will or wont have jobs tomorrow!

And too, even with you, and whatever all you have submitted and had done - none of that has found a fix for you, right?  From what I understand, which could be absolutely wrong, you just keep on doing what you have been doing, and at this point the condition seems to be resolving on its own, yea?

I didn't have anything done so there was nothing to submit. Both my doctors said not to worry about it so there was no further follow up.

But I have submitted all labwork I ever had done and it was all paid for. So was all my pre-op testing. And my post-op visit to the ER. No one ever said Boo about it.

My NUT was one that wanted me to stay between 60 - 70 grams of protein a day.  I always go over 100.  I've never done the 1 gram per pound.  I usually just count my protein shakes 3-4 a day and don't even calculate the other protein foods.  I do eat protein first at my meals.

Was that article related to WLS in any way or just body builders?  I wonder if we really need more since we don't absorb the 1 gram per pound?  Just wondering.

I don't think I could survive with out my protein shakes - I love them!!

Oh my... I'm really struggling to get in 60-70, and you're saying I should get 180 grams.... I'll keep working on it, I'm not sure I can drink protein shakes that fast, then 8 glasses of water, and have time to sleep!  It takes me a couple of hours to down a 16 oz bottle of water.

Remember you can count the liquid in your shakes towards your fluid totals for the day.

You are still early out, dearie.  it will get easier.  none of us could get in this much early out. As time goes on, your little pouch will let you drink faster and eat more and it won't be such an issue.  Then it just takes planning to get it all in.

The recommendation to get 1 g of protein per 1 lb. of body weight is for active people who do not have a high body fat percentage. For those of us who are still losing weight, it's okay to do 1 g of protein per 1 pound of goal weight. That's because we don't need to feed our fat protein. We need to feed our muscles. This is also why some people do 1 g of protein per 1 g of lean body mass.
