In the beginning I was hooked on Jay Robb vanilla and orange packet -- I think it is orange/pineapple. Now it's Syntrax Nectar twisted cherry or roadside lemonade plus a sprinkle of walmart brand s/f lemonade crystal light powder. It's good!!! A scoop and a half gets you 32g protein.

Congrats on your success during your pre-surgery diet.

Each person is different, so you'll have to see what works for you.  Some of the things that I learned were that  I didn't like any of the protein that I enjoyed pre-surgery, and had to give them all away.  I suggest that you don't go out and buy a whole lot in advance.

I also have been slower to tolerate all the foods - I was not able to have anything thicker than a cream soup until 4 weeks post surgery.  I kept trying, and it would go down, and make me nauseas every time.  I only got about 1 ounce down today, and the rest is protein shakes (which I'm very tired of) or egg nog.

Hey Tony!  You'll eventually still be able to enjoy steak, ribs, veggies, and potatoes... but only a very little bit of it at a time!  LOL  When I go out to eat, I ask for a to-go box to be brought to me with the meal so that I can cut off and put away what I know I won't be able to eat right then.  I get to enjoy it for the next few days and really get my money's worth!   Dessert??   meh...  I practiced in front of the mirror saying, "No thank you.  I don't care for any."  LOL

After surgery, there are many different surgeons with different instructions.  For what it's worth, my RNY plan required:

3 days clear liquid (included jello - simulates chewing! lol)
3 days full liquid (start on the protein shakes)
2 weeks pureed (flavored, unsweetened applesauce was a good friend / start chewable vitamins)
2 weeks soft food
then regular food as tolerated

Personally, I LOVE the Syntrax nectars.  Particularly Twisted Cherry mixed with Fuzzy Navel in water...  and Matrix Orange Cream mixed into Fage Greek yogurt.  To get my water and protein in at the same time was & is a real bonus when available pouch space is at a premium!   At first, it was more important to get in the water than it was to get in all the protein we eventually work our way up to.  There's no way to get it in at first and still have room for water, so you learn early on to pick your battles.  As the tummy heals, there will be more room and it will all come together.  Be patient with yourself.  Don't expect to lose outrageous amounts right away.  It will catch up to ya, believe me.  Everything in your body is going to be going through major adjustments, so trust that you're doing fine and the magical miracle of it all will present itself when it is good and ready.

We'll be wait to WHOOP! for ya when you make the announcement of its arrival.

Happy Happy for your week away surgery!!  You're going to do great!

Ruthie

Remember - they do surgery on your stomach, not your head so its very normal to be thinking like that.

You'll do fine - you've done your research and know what to do and not to do.

I like the Syntrax Nectars too, but, they may be too sweet for you just after surgery. Try something that is a little more bland... you have lots of past experience with proteins - I'm sure you'll find something you love.

I'm avoiding commercials like the plague.  I could hear food being discussed in the next room, and I went in and switched it off.  This is just my first day of clear liquids.  I'm not as bad as I thought I'd be and I only have one more day of it before surgery so I shouldn't complain.
