new to WLS Lightweights
Hello everyone I am new to this forum and glad to be here. I was told about it by a member of the Sleeve Talk website.
I had my sleeve on August 9th and feel wonderful.
I was reading about grazing and wonder what the difference is between grazing and eating every two hours. I feel like all I do is eat and sometimes I think I eat more now than I did before my surgery. I know I am making better food choices and not eating all the fats and sugars, junk foods and carbs. I eat mostly proteins and fruits and veggies.
I also have a question about protein powders I can't get them into my diet. Everytime I have a protein shake I end up getting a sick feeling in my stomache. I have used some of the protein bars and find them easier on my stomache. Does anyone else have this problem and what suggestions do you have for getting protein into your diet. I eat lots of high protein foods but it seems like I still have a hard time getting my quota for protein every day.

Welcome aboard! I'm glad everything is going well.
Grazing is more mindless nibbling, or it is in my case. If you eat tiny snacks and meals that are planned, that's not grazing. With our tiny sleeves that's the only way we can get enough nourishment, IMO. Keep trying different protein shakes until you hit "the one". My favorites are Syntrax Nectar strawberry mousse and chocolate truffle. I also make protein coffee with IDS MultiPro vanilla-cinnamon. Check out www.vitalady.com She carries a great variety of protein powders and sells sample sizes for you to experiment with.

Welcome! To me grazing is mindleess eating. A grape or two here, a cherry tomato there,a handful of chips instead of protein, etc, "looking " for something to nibble on...
Eatig every two hours,is just that, eating. I eat what is on my plan in the proper amount and it is a planned meal or snack, not mindless eating.
I have to eat every two hours or I would never get enough nutrition, esp protein.
As far as prrotein shakes, have you maybe become lactose intolerant after surgery? You might try some Jay Robb brand, they are good and he also has an egg protein variety.
I also like the Syntrax nectar choc truffle.
Good luck and check out the menus and miles thread....always great ideas there.
Be cautious with the protein bars, they can get addicting and cause you to be on a slippery slope, lol.

Yeah, grazing is wandering into the kitchen and opening the fridge door to see what there is to snack on. Planning to eat every two hours isn't grazing in the typical sense.
One mentioned lactose intolerance...hit me big time so I use lactaid milk since egg based proteins are also not cool for me...allergic to eggs and since I have a thyroid condition, I need to avoid as much soy as I can. So whey based were all I pretty much had left.
Favorite flavors for me are anything chocolate...I'm not really fond of the Synthax ones...tried most of them and just not my cup of tea.
Welcome to the lightweight board where we are all different but have so mu*****ommon as well.

Welcome to the lightweight board.
I have six mini-meals a day: Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, evening snack. With my RNY pouch, I still only get about 500 cals, and have trouble getting in all the water I need.
The milky shakes don't appeal to me as well. I saw one suggestion on the RNY board that might help with protein powders. Add 1/4 scoop to some foods during the day, or just a spoonful. You might be able to sneak in 1-2 scoops that would give you an additional 20-40 grams of protein. 1/4 scoop in Ocean spray cranberry lemonade powder tastes ok to me. Any more protein, and I would gag.
I also liked the Unjury Chicken Soup - I can mix that with gravy and some pureed chicken, and it's not too bad. I've also done some unflavored Unjury and pepper in gravy (I also add Better than Boullion beef base) and pureed beef. I still can't eat meats that aren't pureed so this works for me.
I hope this helps.

Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas
I became lactose intolerant on my very 1st week and went to using Lactaid milk. It helps but I find eating some things are still bothering me like yogurt or cottage cheese but neither of them reacts as badly as the milk so I still eat them sparingly.
I will check out the different types of proteins that were suggested and see if I can tolerate any of them...I go to see my doctor on Wednesday for my check up and will talk to him about my concerns then.
I have been eating most things with out any difficulty but find I can consume more than I expected I would be able to. I watch carefully what I eat and I am stopping as soon as I feel satisfied so as not to over do it.
It's just the darned protein powders that I can't tolerate but I will work it out I am sure.
I did this for my health and I can and will do whatever I need to to make it all work.
Thanks again for all your support.

Welcome to the LW Board. Congratulations on your surgery.
I feel like I'm eating/drinking all the time when I'm awake!!
I love the Syntrax Nectar proteins. Lemon Tea is my favorite of all. I mix 20 ounces of water w/ a Crystal Lite Lemon Tea Stick and then add in a scoop of the Lemon Tea Protein, mix well, add crush ice and I love it.
You can order samples of the different kinds of proteins from Vitalady.com
Good luck.
Linda
