How do you guys stop grazing all day long?

I find myself slipping and just grazing all day long while I'm at work.  My job is very boring in a busy kind of way and I find myself just grazing all day long and turning to carbs and I've even gained a 1lb this last week so this scares me as I'm no where near my goal weight.

Have you guys got some good suggestion for grazer foods or how to stop myself doing this.?

Cheers from Karin (in Oz)

Even at a year out, I am still doing 4 meals a day plus my protein.  So I am eating or drinking all the time.  I do find that drinking makes me eat less and when I think I am hungry, sometimes I am just thristy.
6:30  protein coffee x2
9 breakfast
9:30  fluid, 20oz
12  lunch
1 fluid  20oz
4 meal or protein shake
7 dinner
9 protein shake

those 20 oz are a minimum, usually it is more.  I try to stop the drinking before supper except for the last protein whatever so I don't get up all night to pee.
DH said the other day that the only reason I had surgery was so I could eat all the time.  I guess from his view, I am.  He only eats 2x a day, most days.

The only thing I've seen that seems to work is to increase protein shakes. They seem to curb the cravings.  I graze but I knew that going into this so I had to pick a super malabsorptive surgery.

Wish I had the answer for you Karin but I'm in the  same boat!  I've been mindless eating at night, usually after seeing a good number on the scale.  Talk about self-sabotage.  My scale moves up and down the same two pounds.  Twice it has gone under 200 pounds which seems to trigger my grazing habit as if to dare the scale to keep losing!

Since I can't stand any protein shakes I have upped my protein coffees instead.  Helps me feel full but keeps me up at night.  Today will be a better day.

when I'm having one of those days where I could eat all day...I put 4 ounces of dense protein in there and make it so full nothing else will fit..almost like stuffing a goose...the protein won't hurt and will fill me up in a way that a protein drink would not....if I get the need to munch again I do it again...
I don't gain....and I don't eat crap...at nite too...if I'm on the couch and have the  munchies I just have a bit handful of sliced turkey or roast beef with a little bit of flavored mayo...yum ..and then I can't eat anything else....it's the feeling of fullness we miss I believe and the shakes don't provide that...at least for me...seaview

I'm a grazer too...always have been and probably always will be. If I had known about the DS I might have had that one done.  Fortunately for me the RNY limits my fats and sugar.

I use to graze on chips, cookies (Grandma peanut butter), and candy bars (nothing better than a snickers and a diet pepsi).  Now I graze on cheese, nuts, and jerky.  I even feel like my Protein drinks are a big part of my Grazing too sometimes.

I was having trouble with cheezits and pretzels for awhile but I've got them under control. I also stopped putting flavoring in my Lemon Tea because it seemed to increase the grazing.

I post on fitclick.com more often now than I used too.  It really does help me keep my calories down.  I also don't just take bites of this and that because I need to account for everything that goes in my mouth.

I'm a grazer too, so I simply don't have anything in my office that I can graze on.  I bring my lunch to work as well as snacks for the day.  I also drink a lot of water and tea and I excercise at my desk for 2 hours a day.  I have one of those under desk pedals and I find that pedalling and working keeps my mind off food.

I am a grazer too.  I try not to have anything that I should not be eating.  I get hung up on carbs and sweets way too easy.  I try to always do protein first because they seems to fill me up the most.  Maybe you can take some healthy snacks to have during the day.  I love the cheese made crispy in the microwave - of course it has fat and calories so you couldn't eat a lot of it.

The protein drinks really help curb mine in between meals.  I feel like I am eating/drinking all day long.

Posting in the Menus and Miles really helps with my accountability.

If all else fails, maybe you could go for a short walk.

Good luck.  You can do this!!

I have noticed that many of your posts speak of trouble with carbs. Have you considered the fact that you might be  *truly* addicted to carbs? Addicted in the way people are addicted to alcohol, nicotine and drugs?

I am addicted to carbs just like those other addictions. I have had to adopt an abstinence plan where they are concerned cause one is too many and 1000 is not enough. The more I eat of them, the more I want. As long as I don't eat any,I am fine without them. Detoxing from carbs is just like detoxing from cocaine. The symptoms are exactly the same.

When I started thinking of eating carbs as an addiction,it has been easier to avoid eating them. First 3 days to a week of decarbing are a *****but after that I was ok.

I am not sure that any WLS is going to work for you unless you get a grip on the carb situation. Some people can eat*some* and still lose, but I am not one of them. You may not be one of them either.
GL I'm hanging in there with you!

I'm right with you.  I don't graze at all.  I account for every bite I take (or try to).  I have no cravings and no desire to graze.  I always have something near me to drink.  I now drink the way I used to graze.  Where in the past I would grab a handful of potato chips now I pick up my bottle and take a swig.  I am just now finishing up a protein shake and I feel so full I can't even think about eating anything.  Ever since I detoxed off the carbs in the hospital after surgery (I figured I was going to be out of it any way, as good a time as any) I have rarely had a desire for them.  When I do it passes very quickly as long as I don't entertain it.
For me, avoiding carbs is as much about beating the cravings as it is about losing weight and keeping it off.
