required support group meeting failure
I had RNY and I have ALL of those things. I drink Coffee everyday...probably too much of it I add splenda to it and everything this that I cook that requires sugar. I eat limited amount of carbs but i do eat them. I do not count anything anymore other then my protein to ensure I am getting enough in. You find out what works for you and I think that each of our bodies are different and we each have to find what works for us. Just because I can eat it does not mean that you will. I eat a lot of sugar free ice cream (it is made with Slpenda) in place of the fat laden ice cream I used to eat. If my son and I are out and stop for a treat I make due by ordering something could be ice cream (kids size) or frozen yogurt etc. I do not eat it all but I am still participating and he does no know any different. I have never felt deprived in 18 months, including birthday cake. i have a small sliver and am satisfied.
You have to be committed to this journey and that includes finding ways to cook to satisfy yourself. I find a ton of recipes on line that satisfy my cravings for the things I choose not to eat anymore.
It stinks that you went to a support group that was not helpful...good luck.

I think maybe you were misinformed...its pretty much impossible to eat no carbs...vegetables have carbs for example..as well as 'no" fat, dairy products have lots of fat in them..so if that is seriously what they said then they are wrong. With that said, I have read several of your post where you debate to have the surgery or not based on new information you have learned. Please do some soul searching as this is a very serious decision, although I don't believe you can't have "no" of anything you will be severely limited and if that is an issue for you then you might want to reconsider..either way I wish you the best of luck.
Well, first of all, it's impossible to have NO carbs. The only foods with no carbs are meat, fish and eggs. I bet they want you to have veggies at least and those have carbs. Dairy has carbs too. So do nuts. So do fruits. But meat and eggs have fat.
So, then, if their dietary guidelines are saying you should eat those things (except maybe the fruits), then they say in support group that you can't have carbs at all and no fats, there is a disconnect. Either they don't communicate clearly or they are morons or you misunderstood. Or maybe a combination.

I'm one who can't really read the light font, either. Sorry. So I'm guessing what it says for sure.
My sugar limit is single digit per meal. So, if my meal totals 9g SUGARS, I'm good. Will not gain wt.
I do carbs, always have. Did not affect my wt loss, but does mess with my blood sugar (low). But I always did them in moderation.
Fat can't make us fat again, so I don't even count it. I don't like fried things so much, but butter/mayo/chocolate are the basic food groups, right? Again, I use what I want, but I don't need to eat a pounds of butter or a jar of mayo to be happy. I tend to avoid things that are made to be fat free because they taste sweet to me and make me want to go eat something else to fill the craving they create. Get rid of the fat, but they add sugar to compensate. No. Yuck.
Sugar is metabolized starting at your lips, quite literally. The sugar substitutes are not absorbed in the same way at all, in fact, they are not absorbed, which is why they are desirable. Again, assuming you are not eating 20 packets of Splenda at a time. My tongue would untie itself and leave home!
I allow myself 2 caffeine drinks per day, if I want. They can be coffee, tea or diet soda. But only 2. But my reason is fear of kidney stones. It doesn't stimulate my appetite in any way.
Yes, I do drink diet soda, occasionally. Iced tea is more refreshing in hot weather, IMHO. If I'm eating something like a burger and fries, I will have a few sips of my dh's diet coke to cut the fatty feel on my tongue, but if I buy one, I only drink a couple ounces and then toss.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
If they meant the days after the surgery, sure I agree. If they meant for the rest of your life.. um.. no. Can you find a new support group?
I have all of those things.. in moderation. Moderation. I watch the scale, I judge my belly, what it's going to tolerate.
You'll figure it out... we all have. We learn what we can and can't have and we live normal lives.
Good luck!
