I had diarrhea and taking iron and a probiotic totally helped. About six to eight weeks post-op the diarrhea stopped. Now I go between regular and constipated. I had IBS with diarrhea pre-op and now I feel like I have a new life because my life doesn't revolve around knowing where the nearest toilet is.

Kelly, I had IBS pre surgery, too. Sometimes it would cause constipation but then with out warning the diarrhea would hit. I used to scope out where the bathrooms were as soon as I walked in anywhere!!! Hopefully this will ease up, and I can enjoy that new life that doesn't revolve around finding the closest toilet, too!  LOL                                                                                 -Julie

Julie, If you've tried Lactose free and that didn't help..I have used up to 30 gas x softgels,180mg each... to get the gas under control ..If I need them i don't take less than 6.(I have a chronic air swallowing)
. This sounds like the milk intolerances and gastritis... Mom and I have from tiome to time.and every thing has Milk or milk by products in it.....and the gastric distress that I had for a couple of years.
You need to get your  enzymes in balance...that will cut the gas...My husband is so thankful  that..I have curtailed mine by using Rabbit Tobacco, Everlasting,  tea...but unless you live in the south you won't find it easily.I just pick it from the field beside the house. It is available on the net tho... .One ounce of the whole herb steeped in  a pint of water for 15 min, makes enough to last for  8 days. Only one ounce tea  is needed a day, I could tell the difference after only 3 days.I just add it to my teaI drink normally, but you can also use it with a mint or cinamon tea bag for a hot tea/ if you prefer. If you want more info  type in a search for "Rabbit tobacco"  and look for the info by "the southern herbalist"
There are two things more   you can try quickly, but only try one at a time...    #1 try    go to an elimination diet.  water,  soy milk only, no lactose free  regular milk.   No dairy...even cut the butter for a few days., no crackers , except soda crackers...No mix foods...No WHEY or WHEY by products. Use Rice or Oats.until you get this under control.     Use a high protein soy shake...and lots of cold liquids..Hold the wheat as well..   then add one food a day. ....to get back to a more normal diet...then you will be able to  find what is causing your intolerance.   some intolerances take a day..
.bananas give me gas...but only 20 hours after I eat them...
#2 try BUTTERMILK... just buttermilk, nothing else!    make it your diet.til the diarrhea stops...it works for some people. I used to have a patient with constant diarrhea, Dr stopped it with this.  ..
