I feel like everything I post is negative. I am not a negative person so this "trend" is maddening!!! Arrrggghh!   But today I had a really good day! I might even go so far as to call it a great day!!!

I actually got All of my protein in orally!!! I had a half a cup of cottage cheese this morning(Almost a half a cup cause I couldn't eat it all) and then I had  protein shake, and then I had REAL FOOD!!! Yes you read that right. I had real food and didn't get sick or have any discomfort what so ever!! I ate two slices of very thinly sliced ham. I put a slice of provolone cheese on top added a little mustard and rolled it up. YUM YUM!!! It took me a whole 30 minutes to eat it with very small bites and chew chew chewing it to death, but let me tell ya, it was the best tasting food I have eaten in a very long time!!! Then I had my new favorite way to get my last protein in for the day... SF hot cocoa with a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Sooo good!! It tastes like a forbidden dessert!!!

I cannot claim to have thought up all of these wonderful inventive ways to get all of my protein in. All of these ideas have been picked from the brains of the wonderful friends on this forum, so thank you all for helping me find things that keep me on my plan and are enjoyable, too!

I am hoping for another wonderful day tomorrow.I feel like I'm finally starting to figure out how to use this tool, And it feels GREAT!!!              -Julie

I am so glad to hear this from you. I understand how you feel. I have had a terrible year with complications and had  G tube for nighttime feedinds with food during the day for about 3 months - 2 months in the hospital and one at home.  I was so excited when I finally got the tube out.

I am glad you were able to keep the deli down - that is a great start.  Try things like tuna, egg or chicken salad - they go down easily.

For your sugar free hot chocolate - try using 1 1/2 scoops of chocolate protein powder - tastes even better than the vanilla and with the extra protein, you get 35grams of protein per large mug.  It is delicious,

Also try this

8 ounces of milk
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate syrup - torani and davinci's are the best
5-6 ice cubes
1 1/2 scoops of chocolate protein powder
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate pudding powder
1 slice banana

put it all in the blender for approx 45 seconds until smooth.  You get a delicious chocolate milkshake with 45 grams of protein.  When you have a G tube for feedings like you do, the more protein the better, helps you heal faster.

Thanks rbb825, I appreciate the advise and ideas! I'll put your chocolate shake recipe up to try later. It sounds super yummy , but unfortunately my pouch is still seriously grumpy with anything cold. I will try again because I'm told that time will heal my grumpy pouch some and things I can't tolerate now may work for me in a few weeks or months.

I have tried tuna and chicken without much success. I didn't throw them up but boy did I feel like I was going to. Those are on the back burner for now, too. I am just so happy to be feeling better. Not 100%(probably not even50%) but better! Thanks again for the support and understanding(G-tubes seriously suck!!!).  -Julie

Excellent! I'm so glad you are finding ways to get through this time successfully. It won't be long and things will be more normal. ((hugs))

It unfortunately is a lot of trial and error in the beginning.  I did best with warm or room temp, actually still have days when my pouch doesn't much like cold.

You are doing great.  Glad it is coming together for you.

Such great news! I've been tracking your journey and it's been so rough. It must feel like heaven to finally get some 'real' food in you. I remember once I was past all the soft foods and onto normal foods the taste would just blow me away, it was so good.

I'm going to try the hot cocoa and protein powder. I tried it with coffee and I didn't like it. Cocoa has a more full flavor (to me anyway), so it might work.

Take care!
