Don't know if I should be worried?

Most of you know of the complications and difficulties I've had since surgery. I was feeling better, Doing better. I'm 27 days out. I know the doc said that I could expect 8 weeks or more for my recovery process. Well here's my worry. I was doing great. Getting all my protein and water orally. Only using the g-tube for medications. I was starting to eat some pureed/soft foods and they were going down and staying down with no problems, but over the last week and a half or so, I've started having problems again. Food hurts. I don't vomit but the nausea is rough. I went back to clear/full liquids but now they hurt, too! It's pain just under my breast bone and pressure. I know I'm not drinking too fast. I'm back to not being able to get my liquids and protein down orally. I'm supplementing through the g-tube again. Should I call my Dr. about things getting worse or is this normal? i don't want to harass the man! LOL I have my next appt on the 8th of Sept.  I'm not in any danger of dehydration and I'm still getting my protein through the tube. So, should I be concerned?    -Julie

I think I would call and let him know you're going backwards instead of forwards tomorrow. He may say to wait until your appointment and keep using your tube but you never know he may want to see you sooner. Don't let it go on for another 2 or 3 days, call if it's still bad tomorrow. Keep us posted.

Thanks Gina. I don't want to over react if this "3 steps forward, 2 steps back" thing is normal. It sure doesn't feel normal! I'm not sure that I know what "normal" feels like anymore.  :-(

another thought,do you still have your gallblader? When I developed gall stones ,the pain was  a dull ache in the center of my breastbone.  Could be yours has gone bad....happens frequently post op.

Yes, I still have my gallbladder. I've never had problems with mine but I am aware of lots of RNYers that have. I REALLY hope that is not what this is. I guess when I talk to the Dr. tomorrow, he'll have some idea of what the problem is and how to fix it. Thanks for the response!                          -Julie

I would call your doctor and let him know what was going on.  I think you should be getting better each day not getting worse.
Good luck and let us know what he says.

Thanks, Linda!  That's what I was thinking too! BUT... I feel like my body has been taken over by aliens and nothing feels normal right now, so I'm not sure if my instincts are right. Thanks for the validation!

You've had issues from the beginning that makes your recovery not "normal" and I agree it's a good thing to keep the doctor appraised of your progress.  How can he help if he doesn't know anything is wrong?  They know that the surgery is major and there will be issues and they commit to walking through it with you.  Don't feel like you are being a bother sweetie.  He needs to know.

Let us know what he says and hope you feel better soon!

Just to add another opinion...

When my gall bladder acted up it was while I was eating and the pain under the breast bone was unbelieveable. I would encourage you to have it looked at or at least mention it to your doc.

I'm sorry you've had so many problems. Swinging lizards for you.

Thank goodness for your Gtube.  Don't worry about harrassing him, he needs to know what is going on with you.  Hopefully it will be an easy fix.  You have been through enough.
