Help...Questions regarding SF applesauce

I have a question about juice and applesauce.

1.I picked several brands of sf applesauce BUT it still had sugar. I know that it's an approved food but I had a hmmmmm moment when I saw the sugar.

2. Clear juice...also has sugar. I picked up a bottle of juicy juice(love that brand), and it said no sugar added.
hmmmm...sugar on the label.

3. Gatorade. I don't like any of those sports drink but I still would like to have a couple of bottles around just in case post op, I may like them. Soooo, do we buy regular gatorade or gatorade zero or something like that?

Do we dilute the juice with a tad a water?
What about the applesauce?

Thank you for your assistance as my shopping list is coming to a close.

There is actually no such thing as "Sugar free" applesauce and juice. The reason for that is that apples have NATURAL sugar in them. You can't get the sugar out of the apples so it becomes "no sugar addes" as in, no EXTRA sugar, above and beyond what naturally occurs in the apple.

OTOH,some manufacturers actually add EXTRA sugar.

I would recommend G2,just in case sugar is going to make you dump. I would also be very cautious with applesauce for the same reason even though they re on the approved list

Early out the regular gatorade won't really hurt cause you won't be getting that many cals anyway,as long as it doesn't make you dump.

Some peopl haveto dilute the juice in the beginning cause it will be SOOOOO sweet, lol post op. som,en people can drink it fine as is. I think the applesauce is fine as is.

Even if they don't make you dump,it might still be too many carb calories and might affect your weight loss.

Gl,
Holly

I was wondering if that was on the label due to the natural sugars.
I actually bought 3 bottles of sobe water and noticed later that it has carbs. It's okay pre but def. will not frink them PO. By the way, I took a sip and I did not like it.

Going to keep the other 3 bottle in the house for son'e sports activities.

Speaking of son...........THE KIDS ARE OFF TO SCHOOL TODAY!!!!!!!LOL

Glad you questioned this. I use Ocean Spray Diet cranberry juice. The first year I had to dilute it by 1/2 because my taste buds thought it was too strong. I still drink it all the time. Another good drink and helpful post-op is water with a little fresh squeeze lime juice and sweeten to taste with Splenda or Truvia. Fruits and grains were the last things on my list because they're so high in carbs. Protein first and if you have room, veggies.

I enjoy the cran grape.

I did have lemons and limes on my list to add to my water. I remember seeing you post that to someone else and I wrote it down. I also have some true lime and true lemon that I am using now.

Thanks for my support message Gina and for being my angel. My friend has your information and she will call you as soon as she gets word Thursday.

Holly is right about the no sugar part of applesauce...if you really want to be sure of what's in it, make your own. Not hard, just a bit time consuming to peel all the apples.

As to G2...go for PowerAde Zero or something like that instead...G2 has 45 calories per serving and the typical bottle is 2 servings. There are zero calories in PowerAde Zero.

As to fruit jiuce, make it and then cut it with more water so that it's half juice and half water.

Fruit juice wasn't on my approved list forever because it is naturally so high in sugar.  V8 hit the list before fruit juice did. I still don't do fruit juice but do Bloody Mary mix when I am flying.  Pureed cooked fruit was on the list with pureed food, so maybe 20 days out.  You can't eat more than 1/4c and that is after your protein, so you are pretty safe with it then.  I pureed stawberries to go on my yogurt.

I love Sobe 0, did before surgery and have since.  Walmart and Dollar General have it for $1 but it is usually more other places.

I eat no sugar added applesauce, but I have to be careful to eat protien with it because it does have natural sugar that pushes the limits of what I can tolerate.  I would not eat it early on post op. It seems we are most sensitive to sugar the closer we are to surgery. As time goes on, we develop a tolerance. 1 week out from my surgery, I dumped on no sugar added applesauce. Cold sweat, heart racing, light headed, disoriented, nauseated...it was horrible.

All real fruit juice has too much sugar for me to tolerate. I drink Ocean Spray DIET juices. They are basicly Splenda water with a splash of juice. There are a few other diet juices that are the same, but I would stay away from most juice. It is all high in sugar, and even if you find you tolerate it, it is fattening. Whole fruits are ok in moderation because they have the fiber that helps the net carbs. But I still have to watch the amount of fruit I eat at a time and I have to eat protien with it. I have a blender that can turn whole fruits and veggies into a thick juice with the pulp. I add ice and water and it makes a good smoothie.

G2 is ok to drink. It pushes the limits of the sugar I can tolerate. Watered down G2 is probably best. But I would only choose it when you really need a drink like that like when you are sweating alot or have been throwing up because it is still higher in sodium than normally needed and it still has sugar in it. I wouldn't say you need it just because you are post op. But if you are having trouble keeping down liquids, it is good. I'll drink one if I'm sitting on the beach or doing yard work.

I like the drink mixes you put in bottled water. I prefer Mio because it is liquid and I can put as little as I like. A whole packet of the powdered ones tend to taste too strong for me.  I also prefer Ocean Spray and Welches or Hawian punch brands better than Crystal Lite. I think it is because of the types of artificial sweeteners used. You can drink protien powders in water, but I think they are all nasty tasting that way. I can only tolerate them in milk, soy milk, almond milk...  Also watch the natural sugar in milk. Some people can handle it and some can't. I'm lucky and can, but I still prefer unsweetened soy milk to anything else.

Note, real juice does not count toward your water intake because of the sugar.  But artificially sweetened juice flavored drinks do count.  You can also have decaf coffee or decaf tea, and that counts towards the water intake. I add protien powder and unsweetened soy or almond milk to the decaf coffee. Just make sure to mix the powder with cold or room temp liquid before adding it to hot liquid or it won't mix right. It is like tempering eggs before adding them to hot things.

None of those foods were on my list for the liquid or soft phases. This is because (a) they have sugar and (b) they don't have protein. Basically, if you fill up on these, you aren't going to have room for protein drinks and protein soft foods.
