Post-op liquid hell

I had a VSG on Aug 1. I am still on a post-op liquid diet and I notice myself looking online and at the forums comparing my surgeon's diet requirements to everyone elses diets. I feel like I am being so restricted in what I can have and it's becoming increasingly difficult. It's not that I am hungry necessarily, its that I am SICK OF BROTH.  I found that my body was holding on to every little bit because it wasn't getting enough calories every day (hence, my weight wasnt moving down at all) and I added in a few things (cottage cheese, greek yogurt) and after I added those, I actually started loosing a little more... I am still not where I thought I'd be weight-wise at 3 weeks post-op. When will this get better? Any suggestions? Should I tell my surgeon I have "cheated" a tiny bit on his liquid diet? I feel guilty and anxious and I just need a little love...
Thanks guys!

Yep, that all-liquid diet can be rough in the beginning.  I am five and a half weeks post-op and I still  do more liquids than solids.  I think if it were me I would call the dietician or nutritionist in your surgeon's office and talk to him or her.  Tell them how you feel and if there's a way to slowly add other things to your diet.  Personally I think if you've already tried cottage cheese and greek yogurt and you did ok with it then it's probably ok period.  However I would still call just to be sure.

Hang in there...it will get better.  Swinging those critters for you!!!

Don't feel guilty for Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. If it were chicken nuggets and popcorn, maybe, but you're fine. Glad you're losing now.

I had RNY and my first 3 weeks were liquid and then graduated to puree. But on my liquid diet, I was able to have yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding - those types of things. I can't imagine just broth. Hang in there, but I definitely agree with the other posts, if you could handle the yogurt, you probably are ready for other foods. But check with your doctors first. Good Luck.

It probably isn't going to hurt you but how much longer do you have to wait? What about cream soups?  Protein drinks? Surely it isn't just broth???  Are you getting your fluids and protein in?

I think going by your "diet plan" is good but you do need to get in enough to heal.  it really is a very short time in the grand scheme of things considering you are working towards the rest of your life.  We could have cottage cheese on pureed but it had to be pureed.

Don't compare yourself to others.  Everyone loses at their own rate and you will just get disappointed if you try to think you are going to lose at any certain rate.

Also many people do not lose a lot the first few weeks and MANY go into a stall around week 3; I am a relatively slow loser and very compliant post op BUT it does come off.....slowly but surely.  Hang on....start increasing your diet and soon things will feel more normal.....

not surprised that you haven't lost a lot three weeks post op, it takes a little time for your body to adjust. I admitt that I did "cheat" a little on the liquid/puree phase..I made some homemade soup and blended it up, it tasted awesome..that was a cheat because I was only suppose to be eating foods that I bought at my surgeons office. Anyway, if your cheated by eating yogurt I wouldn't worry about that!

Hello, I'm new to this board - have drifted over from the VSG board.  To add my two cents in (I'm from NZ) I had surgery a week ago today and was sent home on day three on purees.  Yup!  Tonight for dinner I had about 3 tablespoons of pureed chicken and mushroom with a teaspoon of lite sour cream to turn is to a puree.  Double yum!  And yes it took me an hour to nibble on it but no discomfort whatsoever.  So I think the surgeons all have such different plans but if you are tolerating cottage cheese then you can probably tolerate things of similar consistency.
