Now I'm mad

Finished my final nut visit last Friday. I talked to the insurance guy and went over all my test. He told me that everything was in order and that he would send my info to the insurance on Monday morning. Guess what, he didn't. Not only that, but I can't seem to get anyone to return a phone call. Just about to cancel the whole damn thing. If this is they way they operate, what happens if something goes wrong after surgery? I feel sorry for the person I get to talk to when and if I do get to talk to someone.

Persistence pays off.

I also learned to write down the names of people you have spoke too, seems to help with accountability.

Hang in there!

That IS frustrating!!  Especially if its the Dr's office you can't get to call you back.

I'm having the same problem myself.  I had labs drawn and the insurance wouldn't pay for my Vit K.  The insurance said have the Dr's office send them why its needed.  Dr's insurance lady won't call me back - been 4 weeks and I've called numerous times.  I just finally paid the darn thing, but I'm not going to quit calling.  I may call the nurse instead to see if I can get through that way.

Keep trying.  Are they a local office?  Can you stop by?

Maria is right...persistence pays off.  Be polite in the process but do NOT give up!!  Be sure to thank them profusely when they do go through with what they say but always follow up if they do not.  Good luck and hang in there!

Jody they have a office here but the main office is 5 hours away. The only person in the office here is the receptionist. She's tried to help me but isn't getting anywhere either.

I found that pleasant assertiveness is often the key.  My doctor's office is very responsive, but I had trouble with one other healthcare provider.  I simply called them every day, sometimes twice.  Remember, if you're very polite, most people will go out of their way to help you out. They could be an important ally if you get denied by your insurance for a minor issue.

Please don't give up on the surgery just because of some slow paperwork.  Much of healthcare insurance process is very buried in paperwork.  I don't envy the individuals who have to deal with many very restrictive clauses, many different types of insurance etc.

One suggestion is to speak to the office manager, and make sure to get his/her name as well as the exact date and time you speak, each and every time.  Often the office manager has the clout to get things done the receptionist and nurse cannot.

When I talk to someone about things that I need handled I make sure I repeat the persons name that I'm talking to several times so they know that I WILL remember who I talked to when I call back.  I also ask them when would be the best time to call back and speak to them.  It makes them feel like they are in charge of the situation.

I've also found from working in an office and working with the public that being nice will get you a lot further than being not so nice.

Talking helps but emailing works wonders, esp if you are being ignored and on the next email on the subject you cc the surgeon.

We do  that with Charles' doctor several times...seems we ALWAYS get a response if the boss is cc'ed on the email. LOL
