sample reviews, so far

So I have started on my samples from Vitalady and of course, this is only my opinion and your may vary a lot.

My favorite so far is BSN lean desert, fresh cinnamon roll.  I had it this morning in my coffee.  Very creamy, very cinnamon.  Would probably be good with 1/2 and 1/2 vanilla.  It was a tiny difficult to mix into the slurry but did ok.

I've also tried BSN Lean Desert Chocolate coconut candy bar and Gold standard 100% whey caramel toffee fudge as shakes.  Both were very creamy and thick and had good flavor but it certainly wasn't overwhelming.  If I didn't see the names, I'm not sure I could have told you what it was.  I added a packet of sweetner to each because they were not awfully sweet which would be a good thing if you didn't like sweet.  The thick and creamy made for great shakes with 1/4c water and ice.

My least favorite was Isoflex chocolate mint.  It was very minty and thin.  Might be great for someone who has a problem with thick drinks, but it just wasn't as creamy and the others.  I didn't add sweetner to this one.

4 down, 12 more to go.

I have not tried the others but I agree with you on the Isoflex Chocolate Mint. I thought I was going to LOVE it because it is my favorite flavor ice cream. I thought I would drink it every day. I like the mint flavor but it's not as strong as the ice cream and it's very thin. I wanted to make a shake and froze it. It didn't come out ice cream consistency or even shake consistency. It's in the pantry with the non-flavored stuff that taste like powder! LOL

Hi there Koko.  I bought an inexpensive Cuisinart ice cream/yogurt/sorbet maker and the instructions said that a common mistakewe WLS patients make is to use lowfat milk.  They claiim, to get the creamy texture of soft ice cream, we need to use 2% milk at the very very least and whole milk is better.  I don't know if this would make a difference in plain "stick it in the freezer" versions but it might be worth a try whether you have an ice cream maker or not.  I use whole milk but limit my ice cream treats to a couple of times a month to compensate for it.  ;-)

Thanks Ruthie. I will look for ice cream maker. I use 2% but I will try whole milk next time. I will only do it occassionally. I wanted it as a treat but right now it's not working. Thanks for the info!

I found mine at Costco as cheap as I'd spotted it online.  One cool thing about it was that I don't use or keep ice in the house and when a friend visited who loves iced tea, I put her tea in the freezer bowl and ran the machine to turn it into a slushy.  LOL  It was very cool.  I save a spot in the freezer for the bowl so it's ready anytime I am... even if that's not very often.

I think the stirring action of the machine makes the difference in the texture along with the fat content of the milk.  2% might work just fine for ya.  Report back.  :-)

These reviews are very helpful.  Right now, thick and creamy makes me ill.  Perhaps I'll try the chocolate mint!

Thanks Price!  I don't like thick shakes either so I might get a sample of the chocolate mint you mentioned.  I love mint in my GNC Chocolate and I have to use to much of the SF DaVinci Peppermint Paddy to notice the mint.

Thank you Price, for posting the reviews so far.  I was already leaning toward the BSN cinnamon roll but now I'm sold.

I like Syntrax Matrix Chocolate Mint and Matrix Orange Cream.  They are both very good when mixed with 0% Greek yogurt as a dessert.

Keep posting as you try them... I'm making my list for a 1st of the month order.  ;-)
