i talked to the coordinator in charge of my case and with my bmi of only 36 with 4 yes i said 4  comorbities i have qualified for surgery through the hospital and she said that my insurance WILL cover it  with 4 comorbities !

i can not beleive how easy this is going so far, someone please pinch me !

i have to go to 2 support group meetings , then meet with the NUT, meet with the surgeon and then then i get my surgery date !

the only downfall is that i wanted to go with the DS but the surgeons at my hospital only do the RNY , which is ok too, i just need to get the weight off !

so my appts so far are as follows..

aug 30th.... NUT
oct 4th... support group meeting 3 hrs long
oct 11th... final support group meeting  1 hr long
no date yet... meeting with surgeon
no date yet... surgery

Congrats on the great news!!!

I was wishing I could have gotten the DS too, but I heard about it right before by surgery so I stuck with my RNY.  I've been perfectly happy with my choice and I think you will be too!

PROTEIN...PROTEIN...PROTEIN!!!!

With the RNY we don't absorb everything that we take in so we have to be very choosy about what we use.

Most of us dump ( nausea, throwing up, shaking, and getting sleepy are a few of the symptoms) on sugar, fats, and some carbs.  At almost 3 years out, I can still only have about 10 grams of sugar at a time...it was less than that early out.  I always read my labels before eating!  It used to upset me but now I feel so blessed because my tool is still working!!!

Congrats!!!  This is great news.  I also had an RNY - so we'll be on the RNY loser's bench together.

Take care

My surgeons didn't do DS and my insurance wouldn't cover the sleeve or DS so I had a band or RNY to choose between.  Didn't take me long to chose, no band here.

I have been very happy with my RNY.  I like some stuff about the other possibilties but I wasn't willing to wait while I appealed or found other Drs.

Sounds like you are on a fast track so hang on, it is a wild ride.

My insurance company doesn't pay for the DS and quite honestly I didn't even know about the DS until I was already on track for RNY.  I've been happy with my RNY though, despite my rocky beginning.  So glad you're on your way toward surgery!  Swinging those critters in hopes that the surgery date is soon!

Glad its going well for you! I had RNY and it was the right choice for me, I don't mind the food limitation and I was a sugar addict and fortunately I do dump if I eat too much sugar..make sure you do your homework so you know what to expect..
