be careful about taking gel coated pills/capsules, etc. (Like a thick outer coating that is flexible)   We don't have intrinsic factor in our tummies anymore (gastric juices) and it doesn't break down until it hits the bottom of our intestines (where its re-routed).  The gel doesn't dissolve and can cause a blockage in our intestines.  Because of that I don't take gel anymore.

The capsules that are kinda like plastic (the kind you could break open and powder, etc would come out)  I take fine with no problems, caplets, etc.

I'm not doing so good today with my explanations and word choosings - lol.. need to go take my fish oil...

thank you, jody!  i'm sure there are papers or proof or something out there, but i totally believe you.  why dont some nutritionists understand these things i wonder???  it makes perfect sense to me!  something that sounds pretty dangerous should be known by all those who are advising bariatric patients, and certainly prescribing the proper meds!  i wont be using these stool softeners again!  too bad i wasted money on them, grrrr!

Now... I did use a stool softener that was in a gel type of capsule, but it was pretty small.  I didn't worry about it too much.  I had some others that were HUGE and I took several at a time.  That put off an alarm for me.

What gastric juices you do have in your pouch is from your saliva,.

Jenny, I used those same type of stool softeners and was fine.  They kinda made me feel sick though.....just didnt sit well on my new pouch.   They should dissolve okay.  Glad you are doing okay....had been wondering.    You won't regret taking them and won't end up being constipated like I was!  I just take miralax every few days now, thankfully.

Keep drinking and doing what you are doing!!!

thanks, jen.  just SOOO bloody tired, lol.  getting the head hunger thing and NOT liking it one bit!  getting antsy to try some refried beans or fat free hash or cottage cheese or... something that has some taste to it!  my plan has some 'pureed foods' tat i start on wednesday, and have a small list of acceptable things.  yeah.  creamed soups- already broke down and eat the cheddar cheese soup, which is nummy in the tummy now!  a couple of steamed mashed veggies, applesauce, pudding (already doing) yogurt, but they dont have me eating pureed meal type stuff until the 17th!   AAAHHHH!  they say, at this stage (protein shakes -5 of them! - and smooth pureed foods) i'm to have the shakes and MAY add one or two of their list items.

i'm adding some unflavored protein to some of the things i am eating, like the tomato juice and cheese soup and broth.  but, getting in the liquids is big, big, big for me right now.  really want to 'do it right'!

Keep up the good work!

Wouldnt have made it without my colace, no problem here with the capsule form.

Trial and error with food and our pouches. Glad the cheese soup is making your tummy happy. I was hooked on refried beans with a little taco sauce and a sprinkle of cheese, go figure, I would have never eaten the preop!

i love refried beans now, and am just counting the minutes til i thnk i'm ready.  it's a toss up for me.  i want to be the 'perfect patient' and not screw up, but i wonder if they are overly strict, in this case.  i'm supposed to wait 9 more days before having 'real tasting' foods.  still on shakes, water and will start some pureed veggie items ad soups on wednesday, if i go the plan.

i dont want to be the one complaining of complications while saying i didnt go by doctors orders!!

Jenny, my hardest days mentally were during liquids....I SO wanted something more and had a few nights of REGRETS!  Once I could "eat" again, I was good.  I was also VERY nervous regarding if I woud tolerate things......I LOVED ricotta cheese and spaghetti sauce and the day I could eat cheddar cheese was a HAPPY day!  Hang in there....I am telling you it gets easier. Also I was extremely fatigued the first two weeks out and was concerned about going back to work.  I just had no stamina....it got better though and three weeks post surgery I started back at the gym.   Also, you can test out stuff (pureeds) but be careful.....your tummy is swollen so eat VERY little when you start new things.....the foamies are NOT fun.....and I have experienced them.

Good luck!!!!

thanks, jennifer.  i have been weighing testing something new against waiting.  on wednesday i am clear fro some yogurt, so that may help a little!  i'm so sick of sweet stuff, though!  if i do a bit of testing, you can be sure i will go slow!  thanks for the warning!
