Interesting you ask that!  A close friend of mine is into herbal medicine and he recommended grinding up Ibuprofen and putting it into castor oil to use topically.  He has research that shows castor oil is an excellent medium for topical medicines because it penetrates very deep and very fast.

I don't think short-term use of topical NSAID's can do much damage to my GI system so I'm willing to try it.  For the pain I'm in - I'm willing to risk it.

So...I had my husband apply the new magic Ibu-oil to my back and I put a heating pad on it.  Fell asleep for about 30 minutes.

I am now up and making dinner and I have to say that my pain is MUCH better.  I can at least move and breathe (it's my upper back) without wincing in pain.

Placebo?  Dunno and don't care LOL!   I feel somewhat better so I'll take whatever works!

I have my "magic in a tube". It's real name is Inflamyar and it's a homepathic ointment and it's awesome. The pain instantly goes away when I put it on and it also helps with inflamation.

 Active Ingredients:

Arnica montana
Bellis perennis
Bryonia cretica
Guaj *** officinale
Ledum palustre
Toxicodendron quercifolium
Ruta graveolens
Viscum album

And, no, I haven't got the faintest idea what any of that is except some are anti-inflamatories and others are for pain.
