Suggestions for Bounce-back weight
Hi Ladies,
Just hoping to hear from some of you that have experienced bounce-back weight. I am just under 2 yrs post op. I had maintained my weight for over a year at 155lbs. I was very happy at that weight and saw the scales move a lb or two above and below that at different times, but basically around there. So, all of a sudden in the past month or two, I have seen a gain of 6 lbs! Is this the dreaded "bounce-back weight"?
Well, I have had some struggles with eating more carbs in the evening I hate to admit... but today looking back at my calendars in fitday.com, looking at what I ate last years (during different times and months). I see that even with a slight increase in carbs, my calories have and are about the same 1200-1600 a day, which is what my NUT told me to hang around (even with the carb snacking).
So, I am working on the evening carb thing, I ALWAYS get over 100 protein a day, and ALWAYS at very least 69 fl oz of water a day. I have started exercising in the last month from basically doing nothing to now taking a kickboxing class on Tues and a yogalates class on Thurs. With a 4 yr old, I can't be away from home in the evenings realistically more than that and have never been a huge athletic type. But.... any other suggestions? Or should I just keep doing what I am doing and if the 6 lbs doesn't go away, accept that this is my bounce back? My body wants to be there?Or, can I do more?
I appreciate any words of wisdom you have! Thank you all in advance...

2-4 hours is normal hunger or so I've been told.
If you can eat 1200 calories without feeling starving all the time, then you should be fine in the long run. Yes, as the malabsorption lessens, you are going to absorb more but that means just a little bounce up and then holding steady at the new weight.
Some things that work are getting more protein, less carbs and exercising more. BUT I see so many people on the boards who get to 2-3 years out and then their life turns into a struggle to get back to some lowest weight they were earlier and they get very stressed out and become yo-yo dieters and are unhappy all the time.
IMO it's not worth doing that for any bounce-back of 10 pounds or less. Quality of life is important too.

Kudos to you for logging your food consistently. From what I have been reading, this is one of the keys to keeping the weight off. The other big one, especially, during maintenance, is the need to exercise at least 4-6 times/week. Many gyms have daycares. Could your husband watch her? Weekends could give you two days of exercise, plus what you are able to do during the week. I am also walking during my lunch breaks at work for about 30-40 min, 3-4 times/week. This is in addition to my work at the gym. This is a battle to keep the weight off.

The head of Kaiser N. Ca. Bariatrics recently came and spoke at our support group meeting. I asked him about bounce back weight and he said that it was 5 pounds with either RNY or VSG unless it was carb related which could pack on more pounds. He said that things like fruit don't have much of a place in our food plan because it's like eating sugar as far as our bodies are concerned and to really watch it with anything that brings on the insulin release.
After the meeting I told him that my weight loss has been very slow and that I'm concerned about getting to goal and maintaining. Kaiser doesn't talk calories but I asked him to counsel me on what he thought would be reasonable for me, both now and in maintenance. I had just returned from Spain where I walked 10-15 miles a day, 10 days straight and didn't lose weight. He said that I would probably have to stay at around 1000 calories a day to maintain my weight loss (I'm 60).
His comment was that he has to eat around 1400 calories to maintain. He's a small build, around 5'8" and a runner. That's his reality and whether he likes it or not, that's what he has to do. His best advice was to come to terms with my own reality and basically make friends with it.
After that meeting, I did everything he recommended, including dumping all carbs and shed my last 6 pounds very quickly. I eat protein of all sorts, bars, shakes, meat, fish etc, but no cheese right now and veggies. I bet if you tried that for a week those 6 would melt right off!

So Lee, is it no cheese and no veggies or no cheese and yes veggies.
I think I can do the all protein, no dairy, if I could still have veggies. then I think, how much am I really willing to give up for another few pounds when I am happy here. but I won't be if I gain 5-10 lbs. I've been keeping my carbs under 30 net and still only lost 1 lb last month.

Wow, my grammar sux! :)
I eat veggies. I have a big salad with protein at lunch. I eat cooked or fresh veggies with my protein at dinner. If I'm hungry during the day, I munch on organic romaine lettuce and drink water.
Taking the other food groups out, I'm not too worried about my carbs. I do eat 1 quest bar during the day which is 20 carbs and 15 fiber so not too bad if you're one that counts net carbs.
I'm trying to shed more weight so that I'll be at least 5 below normal BMI in case of the dreaded bounce back so I can relate to what you're saying. I'd like to get down another 10 pounds, then learn to maintain there.
