Good Morning. What was I doing 4 years ago?

Let's see this would be the week of my surgery...I remember meeting my angel for dinner and going to support group. One of the surgeons called me out and told me my vitamin D was way too low. lol  I guess I would have been getting all the pre-op interview stuff done via phone calls. I didn't have to do a week long pre-op diet or anything, thank goodness, so I was probably enjoying some "last suppers".

What do you remember about the week of your surgery as a pre-op?

My preop week was long due to the liquid diet. I remember posting alot on OH and eating sugar free popsicles.
I was reading everything I could get my hands on about rny. Got my first vitalady shipment that week with my protein samples and chewable samples of vites.

I just had the thought yesterday that 1 yr ago I was starting my pre-op diet about now.  We had 4 weeks of pre-op liquid diet, 5 Optifast shakes, 1 small food meal a day.

My week before surgery was pretty calm.  Got final labs done and ititial checks at the hospital.  We had a diet meeting each of the 4 weeks before surgery to give us more information and get us better prepared.  The last one was about the diet we would be on coming home from the hospital until our 1st appointment.  We had all of our pre and post surgery meetings in small groups of who was having surgery that week and we got pretty tight.  We were all ready, no hesitation anywhere.  Hard to imagine that was a year ago.

Hmmm....  I had to do an Atkins type pre-op diet, wasn't a problem at all for me.  The week before I was running around like a crazy person trying to get all my tests done, papers together (had to bring them with me to the surgeon), scripts filled, and trying to coordinate taking my barium while driving (umm... that's not a good idea)...  and getting to VA.  I had a final NUT appt and went to a support meeting the night before.  It was a blur....

Liquid diet-yuck.  I remember going out with friends for lunch  Just assumed there would be some soup I could get. The only thing I could get was french onion soup.  I was trying desperately to get soup without onions or bread on my spoon but wound up eating some of the bread.  I was so scared that when they opened me up they would be able to tell that I had eaten something and would close me back up without doing the surgery!

I had almost 2 weeks of the liquid diet plus one sensible meal a day.  I spent alot of time on the OH boards reading everything I could.  Shopping and getting everything ready for after my surgery - spent way too much time and money on things I never used or ate!!

Hard to believe it has been 2 years.

Congratulations on your almost 4 years - such an inspiration.

Two protein shakes a day and a meal for dinner for a week.  It was so intimidating.  I discovered that I could actually live on less food than I thought (wanted to).  My protein shakes really did help with my hunger pains.

That was the week I discovered "Head Hunger" and learned that I had to keep very very busy to keep my mind off food. It wasn't that long ago.  I'm still fighting that battle in the evening.

2 weeks of liquid diet, I was allowed 3 shakes and 1 meal replacement bar. It was very hard in a huge household like we have... Getting close to my 1 yr too...Congrats on 4.

This time last year I was on my two week preop diet and I decided to go camping for one week while on it :) That wasn't very much fun! But I stuck with it and so glad I did...
