hi all.  thanks for the good wishes and such.  i've been home from my RNY since yesterday.  i'm sore and tired, but the gas has pretty much left, and i'm doing pretty damn well!  i was walkig more at the hospital than here, but i think i need to get outside and do a bit.  that or use the upstairs bathroom to do my business.

last night i was sore, so i started the night on our bed, which is firm for my fibro back.  then, when it started hurting again, i went downstairs to the couch.  i only had a cat trying to get on me twice, so that was good.

getting some good fluids in, and trying with the protein drinks.  thinking getting some of the protein broth would be good, but i did get some samples of unflavored, as well as other flavors, powder, so i'm thinking i could just put some into the broth i bought at our family farm.

i'm very happy with my progress!  knocking on wood!

Good to hear a great report!  Be sure to rest, sip and walk.

Now, if you add the protein to something hot (like hot broth), make sure the temp of the broth is no more than 130 degrees or the protein will curdle and get all nasty.

Glad to hear you're trying protein already.  I guess I was a lucky one that started on my protein drinks from day 1, and liked them.

thanks, jody.  trying my damnedest to get up and do a little walk around between the naps and sipping.  was easier in the hospital when i was so damned uncomfortable with the gas that i couldnt stay in bed.

ok, so the broth should be warm, not hot and certainly not boiling!  thats good to know!

i think i need to find a flavor i like and i'll be good with the protein.  i'm getting some oz. in anyways, regardless of the taste.  it's not making me ill, it's just so sweet!

I have to echo Jody ... Sip, Walk, Rest!

I found warm drinks went down the best for me right after surgery. I drank alot of decaffeinated tea.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

thanks, kay!  i'm amazed that i'm here, honestly!  all those months, jumping thru hoops, and now i'm home after being 'altered', lol.

i'm finding tomato juice is going down pretty good, and it's not sickly sweet.  very glad i have options on what proteins i can use, and liquids, too.  in the hospital my pops made me feel sick, so i havnt had too many of them since the 2-3 i tried.  i'm sure it was just because i was so new out.

Welcome home!  Using the upstairs bathroom sounds like a bit of exercise that would be better than none.  ;-)  Glad to hear you are doing well.  Early on, if you can mix protein powder with water, you'll be getting some of both in during a time that you can't hold very much of anything.  I still do that today to help me get my water and protein in for the day...  Keep us posted!  :-)

thanks, ruthie!  todays experimental protein powder was nectar sweets vanilla bean torte.  you mix all the ones i got from vitalady with water.  i mixed it with more water than it was told to start with, the taste was just too much for me.  too sweet.  guess i should have listened to people when they said to try the juice type ones first right after surgery.  when i was thinking of my new pouch, though, all i could think of was something more creamy would feel better after surgery than something that was lemony or like that.  guess i was wrong!

LOL!!  It's all one big experiment that never stops!  What tastes crappy right now may be perfect in a couple of months.  Go figure!!  I mix one scoop of whatever I'm using with about 20 oz of water... or if it's the morning mix, I use half coffee & half unsweetened almond milk with my scoop of Syntrax cappuchino...   Oh, and I bought Celebrate's Citrus Multi-vitamin powder with Calcium and mix that with my fruity water at noon to get another calcium in for the day.  You'll figure it out as you go... there's really a lot of options if you be brave and experiment!

So glad to see you on the loser's bench!
