Good Morning. Variety is the spice of life

I was thinking about the various ways we can get vitamin D into our systems since some folks have trouble absorbing it. RNY and DSrs can't seem to do much with oil-based D2 so many of us go with water soluble D3 in a capsule, but there are other ways too. We can get a tiny bit from food, some in our calcium tablets (depending on the blend), injections, there are dissolvable dots you can put under your tongue and of course a little sun and/or tanning. I'm thinking we should be on the lookout for varieties of ways to get our nutrients. Or, as Vitalady might say, different delivery methods. She definitely does not agree with me about sunlight and D3 but I'll duck and cover if she comes around. lol

What various means do you use to get your nutrients?

Supplement, supplement, supplement.... This seems the best method for me. I am really interested in seeing how my 1 yr labs turn out and if my D has gotten higher... Jody sent me some D3 from Vitalady in the 50,000 caplets and I have ordered more, I am anxious to see where the levels are.
The sun is a good source but because I am so pale, I tend to shy away from the sun (have already had 4 cancerous spots removed over the years)
I am doing so much better now with my vitamins and for the first time in a long time I feel AMAZING!

Protect your skin as much as you can and take your supplements. I think this is a YMMV thing depending on your skin type. If you can safely get as little as 5 minutes a day, fine.

i  use candy flavored  chewable supplements -  Flintstones sours if I can get em - Vitafusion  multivites if I cant .  Itake a LOT  - like the adult recommendded dose on the vitafusion is 2  I take at least 4   but more like 8 .  thats because sometimes i forget or I run out ...

I also get a LOT of sunlight in when i exercise  and garden and boat .   I  have no shortage whatsoever  two and a half years post .  I DO  agree with you  BTW  Gina that sunlight has a LOT to do with  healthy  D levels  and good health in general .   Now theyre saying 3 hours of sunlight a day keeps cancer away---  DUH  ...

did it REALLY  take a STUDY to  figure that one out  ?!!

Even with all my time in the sun and no sunscreen, pre-surgery my D was really low.  So at least for me, sun didn't do it.  but Vitalady's 50,000 did.  hurray.

With calcuim, I am trying lots of ways to get it in.  Besides food and the normal Citrate,D, mag caps, I do chews and have ordered lozenges.  Anything to help me get them in the middle of the day.  I do fine at night and morning.  It's just those extra doses that I tend to forget.

I love to swim and live in Florida but my D was in the tank pre-surgery too.  I went with Vitalady D3 50,000 and it's fine now, but I'll keep monitoring.
Calcium-I eat lots of cheese but Iknow that's not enough and osteoporosis runs in my family.  I do the cacium with D from Vtalady bu remembering all the doses is still a pain.  I've set my iphone alarm to remind me during the day.  Still hard to remember daily since my schedule isn''t the same each day!

I have  friend who doesn't supplement at all and she is in TERRIBLE shape and is even getting skin lesions.  Just thinkng about it makes me want to take my meds regularly.

I have a feeling now that you're not obese, you will get more benefit from a little sun every day. Need a test to prove it though. Vitalady says no. I say it helps. lol

I hope you'll be able to help your friend...she must see the correlation?

sadly my friend is still in major denial but she is at least seeing a therapist now
