i have been reading ALOT of posts the last couple of days and i have been paying a very close attention to what people are saying they have been eating or are only allowed to eat and it's just not gonna happen for me ! i can NOT eat 98% of those things .. in other words i don't like them pre-surgery so i certainly won't be able to eat them post surgery either!

the foods listed i am referring to are :

fish
cottage cheese
coleslaw
nuts
coffee
protein shakes
eggs
yogurt* i can only eat certain kinds
jello
most soups *can only eat chicken noodle and the vegetable soup with the little noodles in it
seafood of any kind

and there others to but i just can't remember them all right now but these are the top ones i have seen so far

dont give up too easily, especially where it concerns your long term health. one thing i keep reading is that our taste buds and what we can tolerate after the surgery is different for everyone.

thanks for the kind words of encouragement kahlana

i just want to get healthy again and lose the weight but i can't put myself through the agony of not being able to eat and getting sicker since there is no way i can bring myself to eat any of those foods, i wanna vo mit just thinking of it...and i haven't really seen any posts where people can eat anything much other then those foods in my list , i mean over time after WLS can you eat things like pork, beef, poultry , veggies, fruits , pasta etc ??? i know that my diet WILL change and MUST change after WLS but why should i so the WLS if the things i have to eat are things i just can't eat due to not liking them pre-surgery .... i'm really having mixed feelings about this while thing

Sounds like you need to keep reading and researching -- maybe you haven't "hit bottom" yet. I know it's a lot of change which is never easy. I was to the point where I knew something had to happen. I did not want the effects of obesity to rule my life. I wanted to be here for my daughter for a LONG time. I made a decision to commit to the program and not let food control me.

I hope you reconsider and think about why you need to do this for YOU! I have no regrets and feel better than I have in the past 20 years.

Hugs to you!
Meg

Take a look at Roz's daily post Menu & Miles. A lot of good ideas there and different stages of the post op process too.

Yesterday i had an egg with a slice of cheese for breakfast, a twisted cherry protein drink w a sprinkle of cherry limeade wal-mart crystal light on it to mask the whey taste, for lunch I think I had shredded chicken sand minus the bun and something else. I cant remember and for dinner ended up having 1/2 c sloppy joe made w gr sirloin, cucumber slices and low fat ranch. Later in the evening I had a cup of milk and a handful of popcorn. OMG it was so good!! I had some cheddar chunks for afternoon snack too.

I eat chicken salad, s/f pudding, popsicles, meatballs today for lunch w more cucumbers and dip. For brfst i bought Activia greek yogurt and didn't read the label UGH 30 g sugar. Way too much. So i will be pitching that and giving the strawberry one to my DH!

Hang in there and read Rozs post. She gives awesome feedback. You will learn a lot there. Good idea to ask people their favorites. I have a list of snacks, et****ep on the kitchen counter. Makes it easy.

Sorry for the bad typing --on my phone keybd.

Good luck!
Meg

see now that sounds like a much better deal to me , i know that the portion sizes and the fats, oils etc have to monitored very closely and i get that part of it, that doesn't bother me as with the 1200 calorie diet which is what i am doing now i have to already exclude those. what WLS type did you have done ??

after hearing everyone's replies i am starting to think more and more that i CAN do this now

thanks everyone

Everyone has to make the choices they can live with.  Understand the early post surgery days are the toughest.

My journey is different than others.  I'm not a stay-at-home mom.  My kids are grown and out of the house.  I work full time.  I rarely cook these days.  I like food that is easy for me.  I'm a busy person and I don't want to add more kitchen time to my life.  DH is self-sufficient and doesn't look to me to prepare meals for the two of us.  I'm a fairly picky eater myself.

Eventually things become more normal. As an example, here is how your list fits into my life:

fish -- I don't eat it.  I like the flavor.  It used to be a favorite pre-surgery.  I just can't take the texture these days.  I do occasionally make tuna salad which I can eat.
cottage cheese -- Yuck
coleslaw -  Yuck
nuts -  OK, I like nuts, but I eat them rarely.  They are fairly rich and don't always sit well with me.
coffee -- Never ... even before surgery
protein shakes -  I like the Syntrax Nectar.  I don't have time in my life to be whipping up smoothies.  It wasn't love at first sight.  I had to find one I could tolerate and get used to it. I don't love my protein shake, but like my saggy boobs, I can live with it.
eggs -- Don't eat them.  They make me sick.
yogurt -  I don't eat it
jello -- I don't eat it.  I can.  I'm not opposed to jello, it just isn't something I keep around.
most soups -- I like soup, but rarely eat it.
seafood of any kind -- Love shrimp, lobster and scallops

Soft food for me were broth, fat-free re-fried beans (usually with some cheese added). Ricotta cheese with spaghetti sauce. Chicken salad made in a blender.

Today, I eat lots of steak, ham, and pre-cooked low sodium meatballs. They just sit well in my tummy.  I still love Wendy's chili.  I'm not so good with chicken or turkey.  I eat fruit, salads, cheese, crackers etc.

The truth is I can pretty much eat whatever I want these days (10 months out), bread, cookies, cake, fried food, pizza, hamburgers, etc.  I cannot eat what I want and lose weight.  I cannot eat the quantities that I once did.

This is your journey with or without weight loss surgery.  My advice is not to focus on the things you can't have or you don't like.  Focus on the things you can have (and like). You can make your life work for you.  Best of Luck!

Kay
