new to the lightweights boards
Welcome aboard, Tanya...
I think most of us have gotten similar comments but had we not qualified for the surgery, we would not have had it/be having it.
I only had 80 lbs to lose but was insulin dependent (not anymore) and according to most others AND many bariatric surgeons, I was too small, BMI wise, to even consider the surgery I had but I found surgeons willing to do it.

Hi Tanya
Welcome. Friendly folks here for sure. I have told 3 people about my surgery because I prefer to keep mine private I know that others will ask especially
being around a large group of people like church and
work etc but my statement will be that I cut out white carbs and uped my protein. Something short and sweet. I dont want to go through the explanation process because this is my body and my choice.
Check out the lightweight creed ..... I like that alot.
I have about 4 comorbidities and like others have less than 90 pounds to lose. I qualified and am now approved for aug 25.
Keep faith with every step u take along this journey.
Have a blessed journey.
I know what i'm doing,I have it all planned-plans to give you the future you hope for.Jeremiah 29:11(The Message)
With God's Will, I was approved!
Welcome Tanya! You don't need an explanation here...your doctor says this is what you need, you know this is what you need too and that's all that matters. I've had a few people tell me that I didn't look big enough to qualify for the surgery. I too had health issues that made losing all this weight crucial to my quality of life, being here for my daughter and husband...living a longer life! I am two weeks out from surgery. Before surgery I was on three diabetic meds (two different pills and one shot), high blood pressure meds, high cholesterol meds, asthma medication, and fibromyalgia meds. So far I've taken nothing but two small - VERY small - shots of insulin right after I came home. Since that I've not taken anything. I am VERY glad I had the surgery. I know it's hard to have those horrible comments said to you but remember who you are doing this for....YOU. Besides, if it doesn't affect their quality of life or affect them in any way at all who are they to say anything at all to you? Hang in there...welcome aboard...glad you're here! This is a great place for support!
thank you everyone for the kinds words and the understanding of what i am going through. nothing helps me more then knowing i have some one i can talk to about my journey even if you are all stangers. there is nothing better then being able to talk to someone who had been there and done that , they know exactly what i am going though like no one else could. so i hope to be able to talk to you ladies again soon and i will continue to update you all as i know any more info but right now i am just dieting with the 1200 calorie diet until my next drs appt which is on sept 15th as of right now unless she gets any cancellations in the meantime... and at that appt we will further discuss giving me the referall to the surgeon and go from there, a slow process but i am taking it one step at a time as they come, thats all i can do right

Hi, Tanya! I'm all for being selfish in this journey! I have to borrow time from my 5 year old, my husband, my family, work --- everyone --- to take care of me! I haven't made myself a priority in the past 20 years and now it's my time. It's my mid-life crisis (maybe the little red convertible will come next?? who knows) and the reinvention of me and I deserve it. So do you!
Good luck with your choice of surgery and don't worry about other people's opinions. Like others have said you will love this board -- there are no judgments only caring people and FABULOUS advice...
Be strong!

Hi Tanya! I'm so glad you found us! Here, I don't have to justify or explain my decision to have WLS. Here, people just accept that you wouldn't be considering this decision unless you needed it because if you didn't qualify, no surgeon would operate on you! You are welcome here. Add your ticker and hold you head high. Be proud of yourself for taking control of your health. If you ask those on heavyweight that are giving you a hard time if they have any regrets about their decision to have WLS, most will say they wish they had done it sooner. We won't have that regret!
Good luck and keep us posted! -Julie
