i am new to all of this and have been doing a lot of reserach on the what type of WLS to have. i have a decent amount of weight that i need to lose and that is why i have to have the WLS surgery  which is a high recomendation from my dr.  the weight is causing a few other health problems so it just HAS to go ! i have not listed my BMI or my current weight as i have been getting a few  people who are saying horrible things to me about this whole journey i must conquor , i am not being selfish or trying to take the easy way out to get some weight off and my dr would NOT have recommended the surgery otherwise if it was just 10 or 20 lbs that i needed to lose, it is much more then that ! so i hope to be able to chat with anyone who has been down this road or is going down this same road and we can exchange our stories :)

Welcome to the board! Unfortunately, there are a lot of misinformed people who don't realize that having a major surgery where you organs are cut and rerouted is not "easy' nor is changing the way you eat for life an easy way out..it is simply a tool to help loose the weight you need to loose AND keep it off. Glad you are here and keep your head held high while you go through this process!

Tanya,

I think many of us on this board have gone through similatcir****tances as you. I know I did... last summer while going through this process. I was in full swing gaining knowledge last summer, preparing for my upcoming WLS in October.

I will say I am now full circle, and although I don't like to announce my WLS choice, everyone in my small town is aware of it (rapid weight loss is the first clue!). I never deny it, and usually choose to go about my own business. I have come a long way in a year!

Good luck in your journey, and come back here often.

you have come to the right board.  In my opinion if a doctor not only agreed it was necessary but recommended it... it is necessary.. nobody knows your health and conditions but you and your provider.  Secondly, if you are going through insurance I don't how anyone can claim it was approved but not medically necessary..... hogwash!!!!

Welcome to the LWs.  We have all heard some or all of that before.  Now when I tell folks I have lost 100lbs, they can't believe there was that to lose.  Stick around, we are friendly here.

Welcome to the Lightweights board.  I can certainly relate to what you're going through.  Earlier this year, my primary care doc told me that he was VERY concerned about my weight and its effects on my heart and other organs.  My blood pressure was up, my pulse was up, my blood sugar was up, my A1C was up. and my reflux was going out of control, I have sleep apnea, and I could not do the exercises to get into shape.   So I checked out the surgery, and the meeting with my surgeon was great.  We discussed all the surgical options, and decided which approach was best for my particular situation.

I have followed the recommendations of the surgeon and the nutrionist exactly, and increased my exercise gradually everyday.  So I dropped some weight, and felt a little weird at the pre-surgery class since I was the smallest one there.  But I'm still 85lbs overweight, and going through with the surgery, even though my insurance will no longer cover it.

Take care, and keep in touch about your progress.

hi tanya, and welcome to our group!  i'm new here, too, but have felt nothing but love and care from these fabulous people!  on the main board, i got a little bit of crap.  they dont know me or what i face each day, what co-morbidities i have, whatever.  i am choosing to tell only those closest to me, in real life, because of judgements.  i choose to keep my private stuff just that!

you will find your peace here, honey, so do let your story out if you choose, and we will support you and help you in any way we can.
