Oh yeah protein drink and wafers. .have you
I don't care for the fat calories being so high ... or the presence of sugar or chocolate liquour... but that's just me.
I was told that protein from any source was okay but that it was very often found that whey protein isolate was tolerated the best by WLS patients. That came from my NUT and was reiterated by the posters on this forum. My personal decision was to start out with the isolate in the first place rather than pay for things that might not feel good that I wouldn't use.
Funny how, after 5 months, I look at the Body Fortress in my cabinet and realize that the first powder I picked up was a blend... with whey isolate as the 2nd ingredient. dah! LOL It's tough to read those labels at first.
Have fun shopping and remember that, after surgery, your tastes might change and you'll hate what you've bought. BUT, don't throw it away because your tastes might change back a couple months down the line. Go figure!

I think the reason whey protein isolate may be better tolerated is because the lactose is so low, however some of the 'blends" with whey protein isolate as first ingredient, are fine too. Sometimes it's the kind of sweetener they use that can bother new-ops as well. I didn't tolerate Champion Nutrition powder well but tolerate Syntrax and IDS just fine. They both are blends with whey protein isolate as first ingredient, but they are sweetened with Splenda/sucralose.
Fat in things doesn't bother me unless I go overboard. Fat won't make a difference in WL if you're low carbing. I understand RNY is a bit different early out, and too much fat can cause dumping.
I think I found several months ago that protein bars aren't really my friend anyway, they tend to push my weight up a little, so I've cut them out. New-ops should be ok if they can find a protein bar they like and has some whey protein isolate built in. I like Labrada Rockin' Roll bars but at almost 4 years out, I really don't need them unless I'm going to be traveling and can't have shakes or food.
