1st birthday without birthday cake, not sad for me, but sad for my kids

Today, I turned another year older, and it is the first birthday I have had without birthday cake.  I don't have any interest eating it, so I'm happy with that.  What breaks a tiny piece of my heart is that my little ones (4 and 3) are sad that I can't eat it.  I keep explaining to them that it is not good for mommy's tummy and it will make me sick but of course they don't understand the whole concept yet.  My kids should not be sad on my birthday!!  sigh

Happy Birthday!!!

Yea... I remember no birthday cake... it didn't break my heart, really.  Your kids will appreciate the healthier mom in the long run!

You should get them cupcakes and let them sing to you... blow out the candles and let them eat it. I have done something similar!~

Your kids are young enough that you can still train them that birthdays are about being together with the people you love and not about food.  Mine, unfortunately, are not trainable at this point (12 and 19). I try but it's been a hard row.

Though actually they are okay with me not buying a lot of junk food, which surprised me. But I haven't been able to get them out of couch potato mode and I know that's going to bite them in the long run so it very much frustrates me.

How sweet. This is new to them, and in time they will learn.

Sorry they are tugging on your heart. Its a big adjustment postop, but it gets easier over time.

Hang in there

Sorry, im a newcomer, and i havent had my surgerey yet, question is, if you wanted a small pc of cake on your bday would you get sick if you had it? Are you allowed to eat sugar? And i am going for the sleeve, did you have the bypass, is that why?
