 9) you do not have to get all your nutrients from food

Okay, I'm going to quibble about this one a bit. Because I think you are saying it's okay to supplement protein, which I agree with. BUT .... Protein supplements ARE food. They have nutrients and calories. That's what food is.

You can't get carbs, protein or fat from non-food by definition.

But for the micro-nutrients, it's possible to get them from non-food. Which some people don't believe. And some will tell you that it's "better" to get your vitamins, etc. from 'real food'. But your body doesn't care where the molecules come from. Calcium citrate is calcium citrate (for example) and your body doesn't even know if the calcium citrate you put into it came from a pill or from food. What is better depends on the individual.

I get so frustrated with some of the Drs I have in other specialties.    It seems that they are so sure they know the question that you're trying to ask that they answer before actually listening. I have had to actually stop the dr and tell him  "that is not what I'm asking. Could you please stop talking long enough to hear the question I'm trying to ask!?!"  That usually shocks them into speechlessness long enough for me to get what I'm saying out!! lol

Luckily I found the surgeon I have now. I spoke to other bariatric programs before I found out my surgeon did wls and I got the distinct feeling that I was an annoyance in the busy day of the healthcare workers at those centers. There are some things that are unique to my specific health problems. Some are actually pretty rare. I feel confident in a Dr that will say honestly that he's not familiar with the diagnoses, but will research and get back to me.

Doctors aren't God. They don't know everything. I tell people all of the time to research and question. That's good advice for everyone. Not just wls patients - Julie
