just curious
really, wow, thats pretty low. yeah, you're right, BMI, not weight, silly jenny ;-) thanks! so, this makes me feel more secure. my mother keeps beating a dead horse with me. i think i have her convinced that it's better this way, for the diabetes, than 'just' losing weight. if it were so easy to 'just' lose weight, i wouldnt be here!
I started at 210 and lost 33 lbs following the 1200 cal pre-op diet. I had started weighing and measuring my food and using an online tracking journal. In addition, I had started walking a bit. This was over a period of about 3.5 months. The program that I went through required a 10% weight loss.
On the day of surgery, I weighed 177 lbs and I am 4'11" My surgeon gave me a choice, since my BMI was 35 or 36. I still had the co-morbidities and the surgeon said that they had never denied surgery to anyone for losing too much weight. I went through with the surgery, because I figured it was my best chance of reaching a normal BMI. Turns out, I made a good decision.
I know someone else, who had a RNY done, and I believe she was a bit lighter than I was, and she is only 5'0." Same insurance company, large HMO in CA. She also had diabetes and was about ready to start insulin, so she was extremely motivated to have the surgery.
Good luck!!! You'll qualify based upon your diabetes alone. August is just next week!!!
