I expected stall, but how long????

Hi,

I expected a stall, but thought it would be after I had lost more. I am day 16 postoperative and my weight has been the same for a wee****ep going between 200-202. Ugh! I have lost 11 pounds since surgery.

Some of my questions are-
Do lightweights stall more?
How long will it be before I start losing again?

I have researched here, and read different responses, but also wanted to ask.

Thanks!
Lynn

Congrats on the weight you have lost!

Stalls are unpredictable but it isn't unusal to have one early out.  It's usually when our bodies need to catch up to the weight we have lost.  You lost pounds before WLS plus the 11 since so that could have you in a stall.

Have you taken your measurments? I don't know why but we usually we lose inches during stalls.  Just be patient and try not to stress or worry during a stall....everyone stalls and there really isn't anything you can do about it early out.  When you get further out you can increase your protein for a few days and then drop back down and that sometimes breaks the stall, but you are probably eating/drinking very little protein right now.

A stall sometime in the 1-4 week timeframe is probably the most common one that is what I consider a true stall and not just people slacking off.

Your body is retaining water because it's going nuts with everything that's happened to it. It could just be  week or it could be a few weeks before everything settles down. But at this time, you can't be eating that much so you have to be losing weight even if the scale doesn't show it.

I haven't seen any evidence that lightweights stall differently than other dieters either.

I never did have what I would consider a stall.  I slowed down at times but either I have been in losing mode or in bouncing mode.  Bouncing only happened the last month or so.

Just keep on program.  Don't worry about the scale and if you need to, put it away.  Feel good about staying on program and how your clothes feel and you will be fine.

Yeah, I never did either. I lost in a stair step fashion, with a big week followed by a small week over and over, but there was never a week with *no* weight loss until I started trying to maintain.

There were weeks were my "big" week wasn't any bigger than my "small" week or not much bigger and, when I'd look at my logs, inevitably there would be something I wasn't doing that I should be doing. Maybe I had slacked off on exercise. Or my calories had gone up. Or I wasn't drinking enough water. Or my protein consumption had gone down. I would fix those things and the scale would start cooperating again.

But this stall in the first month is *so* common and no one is eating too many carbs or too many calories while still on liquids and softs, so I don't think it's a slacking off issue. Those kinds of stalls come later.

This happened to me right about the same time and after an initial 10 pound weight loss....it lasted about 2-3 weeks and then the weight started coming off again.....currently in not a stall but as Price said a bouncing around (still annoying!).  Hang in there....it will come off and you may want to go to weighing once a week during this stall period...that helped me and I need to go back to doing that again.

At 2 weeks post op, I had a 3 week stall. It was soo frustrating. But I did still lose inches, so take your measurements and pictures. You really will see a difference. Try to keep your mind on other things, it really helps. I also had to stop weighing daily for a while cuz I just started cursing at the scale.

I think (HOPE) that lightweights stall more in general and YES it's exteremely frustrating and annoying!!

Hang in there, your body and metabolism is freaking out and trying to figure out what's going on.

Thanks everyone! Like I said, I knew it would happen, but so frustrating!

I will try and stay off scale. I am noticing clothes getting loser. I'm going to redo my measurements on my official weigh in day, which is Wednesday.
