on a side note i have not responded to any of her text msgs... but my hubby was not as nice he is kinda an ass at times lol. and called her back and told her never to text him agn as he does not need more stress and cannot control my choices anyway

I'm glad he told her off. Even if she is suffering. Some people have no boundaries and you can't hint them away. (I am still absolutely appalled at her gall in texting him not to mention upset for you that she's pestering you.)

If he says that again, about why would you want to do this when it doesn't work, be sure to point out that there is no way at a few days out she can know if it does or does not work.

sorry you're having to deal with this!  your friend will continue to have issues with her surgery if she doesn't start doing what she's supposed to be doing!  if she's eating during the first week....no wonder she's in pain!!!  no wonder she's sick!!  sounds like she's mourning the loss of her "comforter" which is probably food.  i mourned after my surgery!  but.......i always did exactly what my instructions told me to do!  and i've never looked back.  i did have some discomfort after surgery....the hiccups were the worst cause of pain in my case.  other than the hiccup pain i can honestly say that i was only sore....in fact.....i couldn't believe it because i have actually had menstrual cycles that were more painful than my surgery!  fatigue was my main problem.....my energy didn't start to return til i was about 5 weeks post op.

this is not an "easy way out".....it's work.....but it is so worth the effort.  i yo yo dieted for 30 years before i got my life back.....i got my life back the day i had my RNY!  my only regret is that i didn't have it many years ago!!!  wishing you and your friend the very best!

but.....the texting hubby is a real NO NO!  that's a line she shouldn't have crossed!!!  something like that would make me question her friendship altogether!  but....that's just me!

wishing you the very best!!
Blessings,  J

I'm not saying this is going to happen to you because we are all different, but I went into this surgery with no regrets, no worries, and so calm it was almost scary but about the 4th day after I got hit with every emotion out there (I'm usually a very strong person).  When I had my 1 week appt. at the surgeons I was a crying emotional basket case and was wondering why I did this to myself and he was so shocked he didn't know what to say to me. About a week later it all went away and It's been great ever since.

I know your friends messages are disturbing to you but you need to focus on the future and not the first few weeks after surgery.  I had 3 C-Sections (up/down cut) and a hysterectomy and it wasn't as bad as any of those. I don't do well on pain meds so I didn't use them after the first couple of days (that could be her problem).  I just used liquid Tylenol.  The first 5 days were the worst just from trying to get in and out of bed but after that the pain was just a little uncomfortable.  Really no different from any other surgery so that should be expected.

I was having trouble with what I thought was hunger and my Surgeon told me to start taking my Prilosec again and even double it if I needed to.  I am almost 3 years out and still take it or I get a gnawing hunger feeling after a couple of days and I know I'm not hungery.

I can't believe your friend isn't falling the rules even after a short time (it's hard for me to believe that she can even swallow food).  Please don't be that foolish. Why would you put yourself through this and then start eating right away.  Stick with liquids and you shouldn't have any trouble with vomiting.  I couldn't drink cold liquids (even Popsicles) so I did all warm things like beef/chicken bullion cubes, hot chocolate, strained soups, etc. The warmth was comforting too.

If it makes you feel any better, not everyone has buyers remorse early out.

Then again, sometimes it can hit much later. I know I expected things to not be normal early out so I wasn't surprised. But once I started regular food, I think I magically expected to be back to normal again even though it was only a few weeks from surgery. I had what I call my Pissy Period then until about 3 months out when I could eat enough food at a time to also be mentally satisfying.

I think if you look at it as: I will not truly be normal until about 2-3 years out from surgery -- the challenges will just be different as I lose the weight and then start to maintain -- then you'll be in good stead. This is definitely a long-term journey.
