feels like i'm poisoning myself
You know, one of the reasons they suggest CIB is because it is a meal replacer, not just a protein suppliment. Before sugery, we had Optifast as a meal replacer. We were told in no uncertain terms that it had too much sugar and carbs for after surgery. Maybe you need to look for meal replacer drinks, not just protein drinks. After sugery, yes, protein and whey isolate is best. But before, you do need all the other stuff you would get in a meal, just in a liquid.
I'm not sure what those are other than CIB or slimfast or one of those types. But there is a difference.

Hi,
I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad. One reason our NUT has CIB on list is because some people cannot afford higher priced drinks. They ask that patients make a shake with milk and dried skim milk, making it 22 gms protein total.
As far as "milk" type shakes, so far I like Jay Robb's vanilla and Atkins shakes. For "clear" drinks the grape Isopure is good when mixed with grape powerade.
I didn't have to do the liver reduction diet because they didn't want me to lose too much before. I did have two days of clears before.
Hope you are feeling better!
Lynn
Ps I tried posting yesterday numerous times, but didn't realize the quick response was not working!

thanks for the reply- and numerous attempts- lynn. that makes sense about the affordability of things. interesting about the milk and dried skim! my mother bought me some really high priced soy stuff in town and i have to just ignore the taste and texture of it, but i'm getting it down.
i had some rough times today, but am resting and keeping pushing the broth and other fluids, so i'm not dehydrated anyway!

Hi,
Actually, I am feeling fine. The only thing is I get tired out pretty easily. I am glad I have a couple of more weeks at home before I go back to work (I'm a nurse and work 12 hour shifts).
I have had minimal pain, mainly from one of the incision sites when I move a certain direction. I have not had much problems (after the first few days) of getting my fluids and protein in. So far so good! I am looking forward to getting on soft foods (next week), then regular diet to feel more "normal".
Keep us posted!
