Is the CIB sugar free or no sugar added?    I know they have no sugar added products, but didnt know they have sugar free.

Carnation instant breakfast doesnt have a ton of protein in it.  Personally, I wouldnt have made it thru thr liquid diet without the protein shakes.   I also made BIG shakes as I was HUNGRY and realized if they werent 4-6 oz, I could actually sustain for awhile.  It got easier as the days went on.  The first day (really the first hrs) were the worst for me.  You do what feels best but if you had protein shakes I would NOT consider that cheating!

Hang in there.....these days WILL go by fast and no hunger initially after surgery!

i'm really surprised that the surgeons office has this on their list!  it only has 5 g protein- but when added to skim it makes it at 13 g.  it's not a healthy drink for someone going in for tummy surgery, thats for sure!

i do have some samples from vita lady but was trying to save them for afterwards.

in fact, most of the things i got for this diet, i didnt look at ingredients.  the chicken broth has MSG in it, and i'm just so frustrated that it's a big deal to find acceptable foods in the grocery store. i'm taking the broth and the cib back to the tore when i feel i can. there is a little farm a few towns away that makes very healthy foods.  they will save their broths in the fridge for me instead of freezing the big containers.  i just havnt used them yet, thinking that my belly isnt as tender so dont 'need' to be as cautious yet.  guess i was very wrong!

I agree I don't know why the CIB is on the diet. It is so unhealthily. I guess for some people who have such fatty diets they would be better than that. My suergon told me that for us lightweights the diets are not really needed. He mostly does it so we can clean out our tummies. He said for super morbly obese people their livers are usually the ones with the fatty enlarged livers, and ours could be great with no diet at all.

unfortunately i spoke to my nutritionist about this before talking to the surgeon.  she seems pretty uppity to me, and she came down hard about how it insures the surgeon has the BEST chance at not harming our liver, blah blah.  i am a shy, introverted person, so when she got 'hardball' on me about my fatty liver, i just got quiet and didnt ask the actual surgeon about it.  i guess i'm not advocating for myself very well.

my friend who had the surgery a few months before i met her was pretty obese, and insists that this diet HAD to happen for the same reason, but when i give her other peoples opinions and their surgeons ideas she says "oh, %*$@ them".  she is a great advocate for hereself, because she is so outspoken, but if i disagrees with her ideas and wants more information, she tells me that you cant find good information on the internet, and that others dont know what they are talking about.

sometimes it's hard being me

Your friends sounds like she wants to be your source of information. I'm going to a military hospital, so we don't see a nutritionist, we did for like 5 minutes at the seminar as a group. Maybe after I leave the hospital I will see her again. So I've only had appointments with my surgeon. So all my questions had to go to him. But he was very happy to answer them. I told him I was on OH and that made him happy. I also asked after surgery if he thought all my protein had to come from food( ive heard on here some think it all has o come from food). He said protein is protein, so eating or drinking is great with him. I have no problems asking questions over and over till I get an answer I am content with. That's whats great about this group, experienced vets giving us advice.

i LOVE this group!  it's sad that i have to pick and choose the information i tell her that i'm getting from 'other sources'.  you are right, she wants to be the one with all the answers and it bugs her when i let her know i'm learning from other places, or if i disagree with her in any way.  very frustrating, since i also work with her (i volunteer my time with her wildlife rehab, so it's close quarters and she sees me all the time)

i agree with your surgeon about the protein!  actually, i have heard that the right protein drinks are easier to digest for us than food is.  it's hard to find good information out there about this, as i dont think 'they' know much about it yet.  pretty confusing and scary, especially when our guts are rearranged!

Next time turn it around on them... "you mean my surgeon isn't skilled enough to get around my small liver? That's kind of scary, actually" ... (of course he most likely is skilled enough, but when you put it like that, then THEY are on the defensive, not you)

My surgeon rarely requires WL. He recommends it and would like to see people lose at least 10 pounds (more if they are SMO) but he will operate regardless. His philosophy is that it's better to get the surgery and get healthy than to put it off. The practice has found that there is a certain point beyond which requiring weight loss just means never having surgery.

The only time he would require it would be if you gained a bunch of weight to meet  insurance requirements. He says that the liver is a mess after gaining say 25 pounds in such a short period of time.

i wonder who decides the program?  my hospitals bariatric program seems pretty cut in stone, and has 2 surgeons and 2 nutritionists.  i just never thought to tell them their business, you know?  i am now learning TONS, lol.

i'm going to do what i need to for my body, but still lose a bit for them.  not trying to kill myself before surgery!  this whole thing is so frustrating....

i'm not set out to fail, so i'm wanting to be compliant with their requests, but i need to make sure i dont hurt myself as i'm doing so.

bleh, i hope i'm going about things the right way.  i hope i'm doing the right thing.  i KNOW i am doing the right thing.  the nerves are setting in, big time, especially with different information going around my head.

thanks for the reply!
